4 WAY RACE

The race for Public Defender may be getting a lot more interesting soon.  In addition to Gordon Weekes, Ruby Green, and Jim Lewis, retired judge Tom Lynch is also seriously considering throwing his hat in the ring to replace Howard Finkelstein in 2020.

As the rumors reached fever pitch this week, Tom was asked for a comment this morning.  Here’s what he had to say:

”I’m leaning heavily to run for the public defender, and will make my final decision soon. If I run I will file in early April. I have had encouraging phone conversations with a number of people. I was hired as a public defender before I was even a lawyer. Al Schreiber was the best boss I ever had. The public defenders office taught me how to become a trial lawyer. I was always extremely proud to be a public defender. I believe the office can be run better. I’m told there is low morale, and I believe the focus should be on everyone trying cases.”

Interestingly, Tom’s decision may impact the candidacy of another rumored hopeful, Josh Rydell.

When asked about Lynch, here’s what Rydell said:

”Based on conversations I have had with retired judge Tom Lynch, I will not be running for public defender and look forward to working diligently with Tom on his campaign as we both have a similar vision for the office.”

Whether or not a Lynch filing impacts the candidacies of any of the already filed individuals remains to be seen …

Remember, Lynch Worm was part of The Infamous Gang of Four under Moron Ross and the judicial corruption that brought Ross and Sprinks down and out of the picture. I don’t know that Lynch can ever be trusted after that. Besides that, he must be entering early dementia about now.
One Lit’l Lynch Worm way ouside his depth is enough already anyway.

Working in that office is onerous. Caseloads are out of control and clients suffer.

The plot thickens. Multiple contenders to erase The Fink’s booby boy Gordon Weekes from continuing Fink’s memory of bad office managerial skills and even worse representation for the clients than the PD’s office has ever seen.
Pop Boy Weekes had better be lookin for another job because he’s never done squat for the dough he’s paid to inform on all the underlings.

At one point when I worked there I had 144 felonies. It was impossible to provide good representation to anyone as so much time was spent with mandatory jail visits on a quota system. So much time with travel and waiting around when cases could have been prepped. Stupid publicity stunt for Finkelstein’s aggrandizement.

FINKELSTEIN HAS CRAPPED ALL OVER THE OFFICE
NONE OF THE SUPERVISORS CARRY CASELOADS TO SPEAK OF. MORALE IS LOWEST EVER. ANYBODY WOULD DO A BETTER JOB.

Lynch and Weekes lose to the woman at top of the ballot…Ruby Green.

I hear a Ruby was at the black judges event telling everyone that Gordon has a white wife and that is why he never brings her to events. Black women don’t vote for those who dont lay with their own.

“Bimbo”. How old are you that you keep using that term from ancient times? I keep seeing that and my first thought always is “this must be some old man- because NO ONE- uses that word anymore.”

I think Rydell is tougher than Old Man Lynch.
    Better for Weekes this way?

Jump in everyone. No matter. You can’t beat my golden name.
My sordid past of substance abuse, domestic violence, restraining orders, being fired for incompetence and untruthfulness will not stop me this time. Even if I have never tried a case, I am the litigation director of the ORCC, where only the best and brightest work. I am the natural choice for PD. (or clerk) (or judge) (or Supervisor of Elections)(or State Attorney)(or Sheriff)

Restore honor and integrity to the Public Defender.

Vote RICHARD BRIAN KAPLAN and ensure liberty and name game politics for all.

I guess I never had much of a chance. To many skeletons in Howie’s baggage for me to win as his handpicked successor.
Besides, I’m clueless and not liked within the office.

Make fun of Kaplan but if he sneaks his name in on this mess at the very last minute he wins on name recognition.

Kappy couldnt do any worse job than Finkelstein
      Supervisors – no cases
      Historically low morale
Poor client representation – lets make a deal
And yeah, and the pep talks from a box from the fearless pretender

I guess every little bit helps. With big law 1st years making 190 to start it’s a good thing there are plenty of Nova grads willing to work for government wages. If everyone was offered a good job who would be the jailers of minorities?

There’s no disrespect intended for Judge Lynch but trying cases is not the issue. The issue is pay. Paying Chief’s that never have caseloads. That don’t go to court. That don’t have our backs. Paying them a lot and everyone else so little. Mr. Satz’s have caseloads. They’re in court every day. It’s a bad policy. It should change.

Any idea on how things will be different under any of the candidates?

Will Lewis , Lynch , Weekes lend a hand and try cases like Carey Haughwout?

Or will it be more of the same old same old with an armchair quarterback?

I hear Lynch is going to reward those in the office who stay 3 years or more with contract cases when they leave like Bossman used to do.

We have too many husband-wife double dippers already.

Why should we vote for Gordon now that his wife is a circuit judge? Isn’t that a conflict of interest anyway? She has a criminal division.

Criminal division judge married to the Public Defender? Does not pass the smell test.
Vote no on Weekes and Weekes.

Get your facts straight! Gordon Weekes is not married to Judge Marya Weekes.

Gordon is married to defense attorney Johnny Weekes – so there is no “husband and wife double dippers” if Gordon becomes PD.

We should be glad and celebrate that a black man in a gay bi-racial marriage will be the next PD.

Howard has ruined the PD’s office and reduced the ability of attorneys to adequately represent our clients to the best of our ability. I can only imagine what further damage Gordon would do. He wont be getting my vote. The guy does nothing as it is. None of the supervisors do anything but try to tell everybody else how to do their jobs and then criticize in order to make Howard think they are actually doing something when they dont carry any caseloads.

You are all fooling yourselves. You don’t have a chance against the golden name.

The first name on the ballot always wins. Always.

K before L – Kaplan beats Lewis and Lynch
    K before R – Kaplan beats Rydell
    K before W – Kaplan beats Weekes.
K before…, well I can beat Greene in a runoff.

The chiefs are Meritxell Ros, Rachel Newman, John James, Nadine Girault and Adam Goldberg. Do you know these attorneys? Rachel is in the middle of a 1st degree murder trial, Meritxell is very aggressive, tries cases with her attorneys and provides support to them. Have you ever seen John James in trial? You don’t need to like him, but he is a great trial attorney. Nadine Girault is an experienced trial attorney and Adam Goldberg is a pit bull. Get your facts straight.
