ACLU COVID-19 JAIL SETTLEMENT

MIAMI HERALD ‘I almost died in there’ (3/17/21)

” … In the year since COVID struck, the Broward jail system has had 378 detainees and 323 staffers test positive.

The Miami-Dade Department of Corrections has had more cases and was less forthcoming with data. After numerous requests for information over more than a week, spokesman Juan Diasgranados said the jail would not provide the cumulative number of positive tests for detainees or staff, even though the facility is responsible for providing the healthcare of those it detains. Diasgranados would say only that the current tally of active cases is 30 detainees and 64 staff. Diasgranados said “less than five” detainees have died of COVID, but would not provide a specific count.

The Herald obtained more specific information from a different agency: Jackson Health System. The county’s public hospital network, serving the poor and the incarcerated, among others, said Miami-Dade jails have had 1,864 detainees and 846 staffers test positive since the virus manifested itself. Jackson placed the death count at three.

Diasgranados said high case counts in the early stage of the virus were due to a “proactive” approach to testing asymptomatic detainees. Broward, in contrast, has apparently not focused testing on detainees without symptoms ...

Complaints prompted a class-action lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union, which has resulted in a settlement not quite finalized because of the multi-phased procedure for completing such litigation. Provisions, some of them already implemented, include expanded COVID testing, rules barring COVID-negative detainees from being housed with positive detainees, and giving medically vulnerable detainees twice-daily temperature checks …

The very first in person hearing didn’t happen because the defendant was quarantined.

Hey 12:45, that is what a blog does: provides information – it’s not a newspaper you dumbass

That’s for investigative journalists to go around digging shit up.

A state court judge tries to destroy the woman she blames for her failed marriage. The other woman is a powerful lawyer/lobbyist who advises a county commission.

The judge harasses the lawyer and her boyfriend, the judge’s ex-husband, with angry emails and texts until the lawyer files a police report. The judge sends a nude photo of herself, displaying her pregnancy, to a friend who happens to be the lawyer’s ex-husband.

If its true “The judge harasses the lawyer and her boyfriend” then why don’t the Jqc do something?

Always thought she looked a little like the nag she’s riding on. Hope she’s a better rider than she is a judge. Even by Broward. Standards Liz is close to worthless.

By her performance so far she should stick to cleaning stalls instead of playing the part of judge. There’s just as much chit to shovel after a while and the pay is about the same.

Look forward to salaries getting slashed in both PD and SA. Its coming as tax revenue continues to drop in the state with little to no hopes of things returning to normal after this pandemic.

Is every one enjoying the soaring gas prices? I wonder what type of mental illness we will be dealing with in a few years from all the illegal immigrant children being sold by their parents and shipped to our country? Thanks Brain Dead Biden, why don’t you and Blow Job Harris take some of them to your house to take care of?

All of this relief delivered by ….Broward? That County of perpetually scowling people. That County that houses a courthouse where prosecutors have routinely said “I know your client is innocent, but my supervisor said to let the jury decide”. Where Judges would drawl “Ah don know you counsel. Ah suspect you’re from Mi..am…ah…but up here we do things a bit different. Now on your bond motion, bonds are like elevators. They can go up and they can go down. And if you want me to review this here bond, ah might just reckon to rhaise it as much as you would like to me lower it.” And this occurring after being the last case called on the calendar although our client was on page two of thirty-four. Broward, that land of large egos and small doses of justice is now offering us the coveted Covid19 vaccine.

  10. 6

    3

With all the illegal immigrants coming in the country thanks to the dumb ass President tell me why we should even take the chance of getting the unstudied vaccine? These illegals have every disease known to man including Covid so we might as well give up. Less then one third of the nation has gotten the vaccine and thousands never went back for the second shot. This vaccine is never going to work and the government knows it.

    1. 11

      1

Hey BLM fools what’s your president done for you, he seems to be really concerned with the illegal immigrants he’s letting in our country. Better watch out they will get all your welfare money and benefits.

Nothin a fifth of Jack can’t help. It certainly couldn’t hurt.
It should become the new motto for Broward Judges.

  13. 9

After skating for a year, no doubt it’s going to be a judicial train wreck for Broward Judges. Few have done anything but taken a vacation from light work schedules anyway, but coming back to work will spin any number of judges into a vortex of no return.

It comes in threes, so watch for nervous breakdowns, problems related to alcohol and prescription meds in addition to the regular freak outs and boil over sessions seen any number of times from judges here.
It going to be a whole new carnival in town judging from past mentally related issues witnessed from the bench. Put on your seatbelts for the rides going to get better.
Many have problems holding it together during the best of times, particularly all the dumb, lazy ones, but this time it promises to be award winning.

    1. 8

Some of them are so slow that they can only handle “bond motions on Mondays” or “Vops on Thursdays” or whatever. Like remember Mary Robinson? “I don’t do these on Wednesday” or whatever. Now they all have to be there all day, instead of a 2.5 hour docket tour in the morning and then off to hair and nails. Dockets will be crammed with everything under the sun because the mismanagement of this 17 for a year has created a stellar mess of epic proportions. I bet the dimmest and laziest of them do flip out. I just pray to the Lord there won’t be more Dui’s or anyone hurt.

We do seem to have an overabundance of self-serving and unmotivated premadonnas sitting on the bench in Broward along for nothing more than the ride as long as it lasts. No question about it.
But the number that remain sitting is changing along with the piss-poor attitudes of these political blowhards. Many won’t make the cut.

  16. 5

    0

Well well I imagine they’ve enjoyed the year off. Sitting around in underwear (Robes on top) on Vroom Court for a couple of hours a day to make things look legit to Tallyhasseee is one thing. But working cases out is another. Pryor won’t be helping that’s for sure. Holmes the Ilona has set the pattern for all Black jailers of Blacks. Prison for those without a Churchie Sponsor. Donuts to anyone counting on them to help. Are these White Judges going to send people to the moon as in days of Yore to clear the backlog? It remains to be seen. Who has the courage in Broward? Sean Filllipi how much do you make a year????

She’s not very smart. Just another lousy Broward Judge. I don’t think she knows how dumb she is. That’s why everything takes so long. She doesn’t care. Some other inept, lazy judge can always hear the case.

When Broward County, the 4th DCA, or the Florida Bar refuses to respond to a complaint the Chief Inspector General of the State of Florida will do an investigation and audit to get them in compliance with the law. Broward and the 4th are fiscally irresponsible with the State funds.

Why have we just sent 1.5 million vaccine doses to Mexico when only less than 30% of Americans have been vaccinated?
Don’t object to being charitable and helping lower the infections world wide, helps us too.

We have people here still waiting because the sites are not getting enough doses, so they say, and could vaccinate more people quicker if given more supply.

Maybe the Biden admin. thinks that’s how many immigrants from there we can expect soon.

Chief Judge Tuter is he aware the County Judges are setting trials in April. The ASA’s and APD’s handling most cases aren’t vaccinated because of youthful age. There are many cases set. Social distancing is concerning. The jurors will be scared and some carrying the disease. The CDC Director sees impending doom. There’s a surge now. Trials involve jurors. Is a Misdemeanor trial worth dying for. Chief Judge Tuter needs to direct the trials himself if he allows them to happen. To ensure safety for all.

    2. SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES, GYMS, CHURCHES, SALONS, RESTAURANTS, MALLS, CLUBS, ETC are ALL OPEN.... The only place CLOSED is Court.... WHY? says:

      19

      0

Shut up already… EVERYWHERE ELSE has been open for a long time…. we all been to the grocery store and stood on long lines during the Pandemic without being vaccinated… everyone is using this Pandemic as an excuse to be lazy…. the world has not been quarantined… everyone has been working at their jobs moving on with their lives… even the gyms are open. If the vaccine has an issue and needs to be restructured in this premature stage ( people are dying and negatively impacted by the premature vaccine)… shall Court be the ONLY place CLOSED for another year?…. We can catch it from everywhere else BUT Court? You have been in an infested grocery store during the Pandemic…. the stuff you see in a store is in a warehouse with a bunch of young guys who DONT CARE about covid… they select the products, load the trucks, etc…. the drivers deliver, the employees stock, and all the customers touch the products with their germ infested hands. We take the germ infested grocery into our vehicles and bring them into our homes and eat the dammn virus…. stop it already. This argument makes no sense. Schools, libraries, churches, hairsalons/barber shops, restaurants, clubs, malls, etc are ALL open… Most of us probably already caught Covid from our school age children.

First off, they are now vaccinated 18 and older if you want the vaccine for an illness that you have like a 98.7% survival rate. What is the survival rate post vaccine? 99%?
The people on this blog complain that the courthouse hasn’t been open, and now complain it’s going to be open, smh.

      1. 4

If the vaccine is so effective why aren’t the numbers going down? My friend got both shots, got really sick from the second one and now two months later has a bad case of Covid-19.

  24. 3

Anyone else get the sneaking suspicion they pushed this to trial during Covid with a million appeals built in due to masks etc etc etc etc so they can jail the Cop, avoid the riot, and then free him next year?

What you don’t believe career criminal Floyd was a good guy ? Just because he was passing counterfeit bills and was higher then a kite on drugs he was chewing up in his mouth doesn’t mean he didn’t die from an over dose does it? They will hang the cop because they don’t want to start the blacks looting, rioting and burning down all the major cities again.
