My name isn’t on the door anymore but ask anyone caught up in the system whose office it is

OOh “not being able to afford to live behind gated walls in Parkland & Weston where they can buy/sell/use drugs and commit financial crimes in peace”

Yes, pissing dirty while on probation for a felony petit theft, let’s definitely take the moral high ground on holding people in custody indefinitely.

I completely agree with the implication of your question. Broward is probably the only of 67 counties in Florida not to have any rotation. However, Broward has so many Judges that get into hot water one way or another, they become prohibited from either criminal, family, or whatever. Assignments are tied into a knot. How long has Cohn in Domestic Violence.? On the other hand, I recall J. Holmes being in Circuit Civil for about two months before everyone, including her, realized it was a disaster. Miami-Dade is very aggressive in moving Judges around. I have also seen plenty of movement in Palm Beach. Broward, as usual, is stuck in 1950’s mentality.

Why would any judge want to be in criminal? Only division where you have to drag the lawyers in and make sure they’re working on cases- everywhere else they’re setting hearings because they want the judge to hear the case. It’s also the only division where you’re dealing with PD, BSO, SAO, pretrial, probation, jails. Get paid the same no matter where you are.

The Sao is rancid. They still file every dog shite case as aggressively as possible. They do no investigation (except for Laporte and Alu). Maybe some miniscule drug cases are going away now. But so what. That should have happened in the 80’s. Then the Asa’s in the courtrooms are too afraid to change charges. The ones with the ‘discretion’ are afraid to do anything but ditch drug cases. Charge bargaining? Forget it. Changing a charge to the appropriate level is still going & begging a supervisor time. It’s still 100% ‘criminalize as aggressively as possible criminalize as aggressively as possible criminalize as aggressively as possible’ or ‘try it and lose it.’ Pryor’s a zero Imho.

I think its time for a black Chief Judge in Broward … Tuter has been sliding long enough and done nothing to bring reform to a much needed circuit in need of reform.

Let’s make sure it isn’t Michael Robinson. That man is a nightmare to all people.

Staff, Judges, Lawyers walk in those courtrooms every day and act like nothing’s wrong too. That’s why nothing changes.

Just because we need our paychecks we still are supposed to be the brightest of the bright and ethical which is a joke in Broward County for most!

Thanksgiving is a day to be thankful one isn’t a poor person living in Broward at the mercy of a racist prison gulag. Once brought in the system by selective enforcement on the streets those brightest mentioned above that should know better trap people in the system forever.

Black Judges are needed but even if Admin was willing to properly diversify , why would a Black Judge want to be part of mass incarceration ? Who could blame them for staying away ? Admin could order them , but if a seniority system is being used who could blame a Black Judge for steering clear ?
