BLOOMING BRADY SCANDAL

While Zooming around yesterday, we stumbled upon State v. Jerrod Watson, Jr. , 16-008459-CF10A, before Tim Bailey. It’s a major Brady scandal, featuring former ASA Amy Bloom, fired in June from the SAO for insensitive Facebook posts. The Sun Sentinel was present for yesterday’s hearing, which time didn’t allow us to attend. They have a full story in the works.

By way of background:

Alex Arreaza, counsel for Watson, filed this Motion to Vacate Plea, which he reports was granted after the SAO conceded. Watson, thirteen days past his eighteenth birthday, had been convicted on May 17, 2018 of Attempted Murder in the First Degree and Discharging a Firearm From a Vehicle, and sentenced to a year and a day in prison followed by ten years of supervision, concurrent with other matters.

From the motion:

The motion to vacate was filed after these SAO plea & closeout memos were discovered by Alex, information he says he learned about pursuant to a public records request.

From the plea memo:

And from Bloom’s closeout:

This morning, Arreaza stated the following:

“Jerrod was a minor, African American that was direct filed. After finding there was a sworn statement the state withheld the affidavit. This is disturbing because these constitutional violations seem to happen to African Americans and Hispanics that don’t have enough money to fight it. I was court appointed spd (special public defender). Now we go back to square one. We’re going to try the case. I’m surprised that the State has decided to go forward after reading Amy Bloom’s memo stating that they have no evidence and a victim recanting.”

Stay tuned for the full story from the Sun Sentinel …

SAO mentality makes it too hard to drop any cases without a dent from the bosses. They’d rather try a case & hope for a rogue jury.

Its just a training ground for gophers looking to pad their stats.
I keep waiting for Justice and Fair Play to enter into it. Guess I’m going to keep on waiting.

    Hold.
    Bloom.
    Accountable.

This is atrocious. Five minutes to read and comprehend exactly what she did. Nothing legally technical or complex about this. Put it in front of a committee.

She needs to be DISBARRED. This is beyond atrocious.

How many others are doing this at the SAO that we don’t know about?

They are ALL doing this. Nothing but a bunch of racist Trump supporting holier than thou whites working there. They all need to go NOW !! The citizens of Broward County will not tolerate racism.

All of the racism, bigotry and white privilege in the Broward County State Attorney’s Office is coming to a very quick end very soon. When Broward State Attorney Pryor and Assistant State Attorney Ilona Holmes take over aided by the new head of the homicide unit Sheila Alu all of thus rampant racism towards disenfranchised blacks and Hispanics will END. And quite a few ASAs will be unemployed especially in the corrupt and vile homicide unit. My advice is that the likes of ASAs Tony Loe, Ted Daus, Jeff Marcus, Heather Hendrickson, Maria Schneider, lanie Bandell just to name a few better start looking for another job now. Their services wilk no longer be tolerated at the new and improved State Attorney’s Office.

      Yeah–then it’s open season on whites–priveledge or not—they are all already guilty–guilty—guilty.

Wow racism in SAO but black on black crimes in the clerks office. Yet Brenda is back but SAO will start new next year. Brenda if your dumb ass is reading this you better redeem and humble yourself. You made that place a mess and you have to fix it before DeSantis remove your ugly ass.

Great News. The courthouse is closed until January 2021. Several clerks have been diagnosed with the Coronavirus. Thank you Brenda Foreman for making us come to work in the sick courthouse while everyone else is at home.

Exactly. The policies requiring approval to dismiss meet with resistance from bosses. So they just try bad cases. And get reversed more than any circuit.

Harold – are you reading this. Maria told Amy to plea this kid to PRISON instead of a not guilty. Am I missing something. Instead of a not guilty. Why not drop the charges since you knew you couldn’t prove it.

Are you kidding me. The affidavit was not turned over! Did Ms Schneider know it was not turned over when she offered the plea to prison.

Just another ruse to keep fingers in taxpayer’s pockets. Pretty retarded that the county fell for it for so long if you ask me. But that’s the kind of managers we’ve got watching the cash registers here in Broward.

I hear they are in arrears on rent and maintenance to the tune of cool mil and there are allegations of covid relief money being spent on an alleged mural

Poorly written Motion To Vacate, but glad it worked. Full of typos and grammar errors. Even the title of the motion is wrong.

Arreaza knew victim was having second thoughts about prosecution and takes no depos and pleas case. There was either other stuff he knew they had or he’s incompetent.

Racist State Attorney!! I remember the battles fought in Destry’s courtroom. I can still see Bloom jumping up and down yelling at the judge like a lunatic. Destry wasn’t easy to dean with but when professionalism is forgotten this is the result. And to think she went on and tried so many cases after that. Witnesses making up lies on the stand. Cops coming up with explanation to missing pieces crucial to the case. Shame on the higher ups die turning a blind eye, even if justice is blind, it’s not deaf!! Open up all the cases she tried, look and see if she turned over evidence, look and see what she was hiding. Amy Bloom thank you for being the sacrificial lamb to bring out the chaos in that office. And all those SPDs that take cases and do nothing, please get off the wheel. Bunch of old geezers. Private defense bar we need more pride in our craft.

A message to the State Attorney’s Office. BLACK LIVES MATTER ! Remember this all of you racist ASAs. REMEMBER it every single day and follow the rules, no more prosecution of innocent Black people. Those days are over. Many of you will soon find yourselves out of a job. BLACK LIVES MATTER is here to stay, we are not going anywhere.

White lives matter, all lives matter. Just remember when you burn down and loot innocent businesses that you don’t demand respect, you earn it. Black lives might matter a lot more to every one if the criminals that are looting and acting like fools wasn’t giving your entire race a bad name.
