At last a good selection instead of the regular familiar garbage picks we usually get !

Kristin will make a fine judge, unbothered by all the immature ego problems we’ve seen over and over again. Congratulations Kristin ! We look forward to appearing before you.

Appointments of inexperienced political hires is a proven recipe of success in 17.

I couldn’t afford it. By the time taxes are taken out, they’ll be lucky to make squat. Only people that don’t do well in private practice or have any practice at all want to be judges in Broward. It makes for more of a jingle in the pocket at the end of the month for most of these punks.
Just take a look around and you’ll see it’s the truth. It’s why so many of them are so miserable scraping the bottom of the barrel to make ends meat and spend the rest of their time handing out plastic plaques for achievements that don’t add up to anything but mediocre backslapping praise for a job that a first year law student can do.
About the only reason you’d want to be a judge in Broward is the light schedule.

Interesting. Singhal took shit from all types in this County and ALWAYS came out on top. Not sure what the “joke” is in this comment other than to show that some commenters will whine and cry over others that work hard and persevere. From the Sun-Sentinel:

“Singhal had high praise for both Broward appointments.

“As an applicant that had to wait 17 times to get appointed, it is not a process for the faint of heart,” he said. “I think the governor made wonderful selections picking Elaine and Kristin. Elaine will be an outstanding judge and my only regret is that I lose her as a law clerk.”

Before working with Singhal, Carbuccia worked under Broward Circuit Judges Martin Bidwill and Carol Lisa Phillips.”

Judge Singhal is a terrific Judge (and a great person). But I remember him getting passed over all the time. By inexperienced lawyers with half his salt. I remember his understandable frustration (the cafeteria was a great place for discussions). That’s why this’s odd. Maybe he’s being nice in the papers. But he’s the first one to know how a long termer would feel about getting zipped. For someone with such little experience. After so much hard work trying cases for years. But Judge Singhal’s a gentleman. He wouldn’t say bad stuff about his Staff Attorney’s big day.

The young lawyers today will never know how the cafe loss was a big loss that’s where all the mentoring went on all the great lawyers like Raag and Bo or whomever to answer questions.

And Freddie, Bill Cone, John Cotrone, Keith Seltzer many more. Some great stories there.

Yeah right. What a moron you are. Literally some of the most successful guys in the courthouse. True criminal lawyers, and you still criticize like a douchebag.

Charlie didn’t need a nickel of trough money yet worked hard every day for decades & in my view a good judge.

CHARLES GREENE COINED THE PHRASE NHI
OR NON-HUMAN INVOLVEMENT REFERRING TO A BLACK DEFENDANT AND WAS QUICKLY SHUFFLED OUT OF A CRIMINAL DIVISION

JUST THE KIND OF FREAK YOU WANT SITTING AS A JUDGE IN BROWARD OR ANYWHERE ELSE

Although it was a rather stupid comment, he did not “coin” the phrase. It was a phrase that was commonly used in the past when the world wasn’t so PC.

Greene has a very wealthy wife. Good probate judge. Maybe the best of the 3.

I can’t imagine the LQBTQ and Black populations in Broward supporting anyone appointed by Desantis.

Last I checked it wasn’t drag queens that were molesting kids- more like priests and pastors. But it’s not just the LGBT community but all their friends supporters and allies.
Most people in Broward are disgusted by what this wannabe Trump governor does. He wants to drag us to a religious dictatorship.

Candidate Desantis will now take questions on Drag Show etiquette and the use of pronouns. All questions on the national economy, foreign relations, gun violence, and the national debt will be referred to a junior staffer who will tell a Spokesperson what to say after Staff reads a bunch of books.

Judge (or soon to be) Carbuccia may be brilliant- but she has only been a lawyer for 6.6 years, apparently has only clerked for other judges (maybe that is wrong) and in no way is qualified to be a circuit court judge. No real client experience, whether litigation or not. Astonishing. But then again, DeSatan appointed a woman to the Supreme Court who didn’t statutorily qualify for the position and also went to the now defunct Coastal School of Law in Jax. Even the Supreme Court couldn’t uphold that so the unqualified applicant had to wait for another opening a year later. I applied in Dade County about 35 times and was a finalist for 14 positions (circuit court) from 2002-2012 (appx). Life isn’t fair and I understand it. I am a Democratic Plaintiff’s trial lawyer so I knew my chances were low. Three R Governors turned me down. Was board certified in civil trial about ten years before i applied and had written dozens of appellate briefs and conducted many oral arguments by the time I first applied in about 2000. Would have run had I lived in Broward. Still agree that appointment is better (in theory) than voting, especially in large counties where one’s name is 75% of the reason one gets elected or loses.

Charlie was a pandering D Governor and he turned you down too. He went from R to I to D within months and really stood for nothing by the end.

Clients come in many forms. Each judge is different: Contini (elected) had clients and now he’s disbarred. Gardiner (appointed) had clients and now she’s disbarred. Watson had clients but stole from them and now she’s disbarred. That’s just three judges from here. So please before you use years as a lawyer as your barometer at least get to know the person.

These appointments came from a short applicant list of 13 people. Ten were sent to the Governor. Different candidates had different levels of experience. What’s interesting is how people attack this Governor no matter whom he appoints. The papers talk about appointments being white males. But, that was a Democrat thing. Lawton Chiles appointed nearly all white males. In Broward, DeSantis has made seven appointments—six women, five minorities, all qualified. No mention of that.

Watson didn’t steal from clients, she stole from other lawyers. A blatant violation of the Rules of the Cool Kid Club.

They’ll keep her out of Criminal until after she’s ‘elected’ without opposition and then bam! they’ll put her in Crim.

The blog is a criminal blog so that’s naturally what the posters on here care about, but most of the 90 Broward judges are not in criminal. Likely, neither of these new judges will see criminal for many years if at all.

More like a judicial resignation to ward off the wolves at the door. There’s more to this than meets the eye.
