CIRCUIT COURT VACANCY

Onward & Upward …

Mariya Weekes is vacating her circuit court judgeship to join the nationally prominent Milberg litigation law firm (formerly Milberg Weiss).

Weekes joins a small group of Broward judges who have advanced their careers over the last twenty years beyond the circuit court level, including Tarlika Nunez-Navarro, Raag Singhal, Dorian Damoorgian, Melanie May, Jimmy Cohn, and, of course, Ed Merrigan.

We’ll be sure to post when the JNC opens her spot for applications, presumably right after the new year …

WELL DONE!

Why would she regret leaving a dead end job with. O possibility of advancement? She wants a successful career. This was a stepping stone to it. Not a destination.

I wonder if he thinks all the baubles and trophies he’s collected over the years vindicate him against his infamy of being one of a very few jurists in the history of the USA who got suspended for serious ethical violations?

He should have been removed from the bench. Sending intimidating threatening communications to a judge? Anyone else did that what would happen?

Brenda’s daughter sentenced to jail and to pay restitution. She and Diaz wrote letters to the judge supporting her character. In the sun sentinel. Can’t make this stuff up! Anything for a buck!

It’s a great job for a lawyer that’s older and has made their bones already. For a young person without the connections to advance it would stink after the novelty wears off. That’s why so many of them are mean. They’re stuck in a miserable grind.

Like that poor loser Diaz. He spent his entire career doing traffic tickets- making less than most lawyers. It has to be incredibly embarrassing and humiliating for him. He doesn’t even have the prestige of being a real judge in circuit court.

This is directly from the FL Ethics Comm’n (June 2023 filings) re judicial salary:

              Benson: $ 164,196
              Diaz: $ 151,632

              1. 1

                2

Plus, it looks like Diaz has only about $20k total in his bank account (just 1 Volvo car repair away from being bankrupt).

                Usan isn’t doing much better.

These guys REALLY need these jobs – good thing for Usan those “extra” votes were found at the last minute!

Some interesting finds over at the Ethics Commission:

Mariya Weekes: saddled w almost $800k in mortgage debt! Plus 200k student loans, but only $11k in her bank account! and a well-ridden BMW worth $7k! Ouch Mariya! Better quit smoking all those cigs.

Is this the current election records? Does anyone know if he’s running? He could have been in drop since then and won’t be running.

And Kollra is bringing in 32k in social security income. Can’t you opt to not collect that money when you’re already getting 182k from the tax payers?

No he’s entitled to it. Collect while you can. I don’t blame him
But does have to reside in trailer park residence in which he evicted the tenant. Just a joke Ernie the Attorney you’re the best. Mistrial!!!! With no sanctions. Split the baby.

At 62 you can collect social security payment if you earn less than $45,000 a year. But after a certain age (67?) you start collecting no matter what you earn.

He collects his entire salary if he retires. If he does DROP he also gets 5 years or more salary socked away. Not a bad deal for a career life on vacation. He has time to do errands, pick up kids, campaign for Brenda so the wife stays as head flunkie. He keeps his days busy with reading this blog daily too. Type anonymous letters.
            Busy Bob!!

And all that happened is he paid a fine and was suspended for a month? 45 days? His life didn’t change one bit. He can take 45 days away from the courthouse no problem! Did much change during that time? He’s always on vacation anyway.
And that was years ago and he still gets elected with or without opposition.
He can play this system well. Have to give him props for that. Nice gig for Vacay Bob!

Here’s where he has to work every 6 years. Shmooze instead of snooze. But he goes to parties and banquets. Hands out a few cards. Gets his filing fee paid. Takes in some donations and gets his campaign gear. Goes to the right people who gladly for whatever reason endorse him. Has the right groups like Hispanic bar. Others too. Groups where he showed up at their Christmas parties. Easily gets reelected and goes back on vacation.

              1. 4

                0

Look at it this way. His life doesn’t change. He was on vacation and did little the entire time he was on the bench when he retires. Plus cost of living increases. Throw in social security while we are at it. Like I said not bad for a life always on vacation. Speaking of vacation he got to show up or in his case barely show up to sit and sleep on the bench.
Take whatever time off he needed or wanted. Anytime.
Not a bad gig for always being on vacation for decades.

Yes. I am certain that he is happy with the sad path his career took. He has to know he couldn’t expect more. He isn’t a great legal mind, he doesn’t really have the charisma to bring business anywhere. I think a mediocre career suits this very mediocre man. It’s easy- and he still couldn’t do it well.

                  1. 5

                    0

But he doesn’t have stress. Stress from what? He doesn’t have to track down payments or worry about overhead. He doesn’t pay for accountants to figure out the quarterly payments. He coasted through the pandemic no worries. There’s a trade off with everything. One thing I’m sure is Diaz doesn’t experience burn out. From what? Vacation? If he gets burned out he sleeps on the bench. Nothing happens.
He’s always on vacation. Even when he shows up what does he do? Left early for years. I don’t know if he does Fridays.
He never tried for circuit. My guess it would interfere with his bohemian lifestyle. And for what? He makes almost as much where his is.
Only time he got working was to make sure Brenda got elected. That’s when he actually did something. Put that idiot clerk front and center for the wife.

Yes it’s a waste of taxpayers money but these same people elect him every time.

                    1. 2

                      0

He doesn’t have any stress. I agree, it’s an easy job to handle traffic tickets your entire career. But it can’t be fulfilling. He also makes very little money. His entire career is just mediocre. Most people wouldn’t be fulfilled by that- but he I think is happy to just handle traffic tickets and make very little money. Also- he did try for circuit- but thankfully was never elevated. He couldn’t handle the real legal thinking that would require. Also- it isn’t a huge pay difference for actual work that is way above him.

                    2. 3

                      0

Fulfilling means something different to Diaz. He wanted to stay on vacation and have the luxury of picking up his kid from school every afternoon and going home. He wanted to take Fridays off. Not sure if he still does that. Never saw him run for circuit but if someone says he ran or maybe looked for an appointment ok. Maybe so. Fair enough. I’m sure if it make him work or be in court more he would go back to county. Why work for your money if you can make it doing what you want to do and be on vacation ?
But he retires one day and will collect his entire salary plus social security. Throw in the wife too and what she will collect. Is he in drop? If so and he’s been there forever I assume so. Now they can be in drop 8 years ? He’s collecting twice his salary a year while in drop. For a guy on vacation not a bad gig.

                    0

Agree. He lives the life of a stay at home spouse. He is content with not having any exceptionalism in his career. His wife I’m sure married him knowing he isn’t an ambitious man, so she is ok with it. I don’t think he could have handled more than what he has done for like 40
years. But most lawyers would find doing tickets their entire lives very unfulfilling. But you are right- it’s ok money for basically doing nothing. Also, considering he could never make it in the real world and ever be a real earner- this mediocre career is like hitting the lottery for him.

Exactly. Hes vacay Bob! Too much time on his hands maybe? Good argument for that one! write anonymous letters to fellow judges, helps with the idiot clerk to keep the wife employed. There’s one I can’t come up with an answer for. Who wants their spouse stuck there with that wack job. He’s always roaming around the courthouse when he’s even there. Writes letters to the bar about lawyers.

Ok so Diaz have to go to functions and send out mailers. Smooze instead of snooze a bit every 6 years. Still not a bad gig. The rest of the time is his and back on vacation. Every now and then go to functions. Let’s not forget those judicial conferences paid by the tax payers to go on mini excursions. And on top of it all he’s given awards for all of this. His only main concern is helping Brenda get elected so the wife can join in on the action. Can someone explain what she does? Not a bad gig

Spill the beans. We all have issues with Achilles. Better to have ammunition to imply a pattern of behavior to judges. We all win if you give details. They can’t hide behind their inadvertent errors if all their bullshit becomes public. It’s hard to plausibly claim mistake so frequently. At some point it becomes malpractice by the state attorney to keep them employed. So let’s start sharing details. What did she do to make you believe she’s a cheater. I believe she’s a cheater, full disclosure. I want to know if my thing is the the same as your thing is the same as my buddy’s thing, etc. Looking to identify a pattern of behavior for the bar complaint.

The judges loved Bo’s case portfolio they always asked to review it and he would hand it over the bench to them. There wasn’t a legal pleading in that portfolio but it definitely put a smile on their faces.
Even the female Asa’s wanted to see the portfolio. They wanted to be part of it but Bo drew his boundaries professionally.
    Class act understatement.

Good thing you’re “anonymouse”. If you’re a criminal defense lawyer and that’s the way you write and try to make points, you need to have 3.850 stamped on your forehead. If you’re an ASA and that’s the way you write and try to make points, you probably booked Bob Jarvis’ class at Nova.

      Inadvertent error. The ASA mantra.
And defense counsel and judges buy it. It should be reported to the Bar. But everyone is afraid to report anything to the Bar because of repercussions. Needs a third party to do the reporting.

The Bar is a joke as is the JQC. But you filthy deceptive cowardly lawyers will never stand up. All Y’All are the sham and mockery of your own profession.

Serious question; if a defense attorney finally does a bar complaint against a pascale or Bradley—does he gain your respect or your ire? Do we think that lawyer is petty or do we praise that he’s finally done what we all want to do? Do other prosecutors now treat that lawyer poorly? Or are prosecutors happy that a bad one finally got weeded out?

          1. 3

            0

            Answer to questions.
            Respect for complainant
            Praise them for reporting
            Yes, absolutely retribution
No way, Birds of a common feather, flock together.
Great questions. But a bit rhetorical

          2. 2

            0

Depends on the nature of the complaint. Stealing money is a fair distancing issue that would probably insulate the complainant from ire, but outright lousy representation is covered up and not investigated. Hence the reason there are so very few plaintiff legal malpractice attorneys and lots of defenders. Unlike areas like medical malpractice where greedy lawyers drool to sue.

Mistrial my ass!!! what about the 15 year sentence for the murder case on the other Morietti case? That office is a joke! Sorry for the victim’s family🥲

Ernie the attorney had the balls to declare a mistrial
It must have been blatant. If the State purposely causes a mistrial isn’t that grounds to have the case dismissed. Is the State doing this purposely to support Woke issues?

Achille is absolutely clueless. Doesn’t even know how many jurors to seat on a homicide. And she is nasty. Then you add Bradley who shouldn’t even be allowed to practice law??? Way to go HP. Broward County deserves better.

Can everyone detail their pascale horror stories below? I’m gonna do a B complaint. I know I can’t cite to anonymous tales—I have my own. But I’d like to see if my experience is unique or if we all have had similar experiences. I’m not afraid of her. And knowing her she’d be too embarrassed to tell anyone about what will be a very embarrassing complaint for her. But if she does, I hope the other prosecutors know enough to know that’s she’s the bad apple, not the lawyer exhausted by her cheating and lying.

Maybe soon to be former Judge Weekes will get her personality back & be the nice person she was before she got on the bench.

MW got some serious robe fever & became very stand-offish & had a “I’m better than you” demeanor if you would see her off the bench or out in public.

Anyone who gets/got like that needs to have a reality check. Those who supported people like her lear our lesson to not do that for anyone we knew prior to their getting on the bench.

    Bye Felicia

She’s just as bad. Her personality is worse than her puffed face. No one has robe fever as bad as Nina does. I’ve had to have a court reporter show up for simple hearings because she is such a bitch and obviously unfair so I have proof for appeals. Who in the world would stick their piece in her much less buy her a birken bag. Doubtful.

Nina is with the ex husband of David’s new wife. Their entire bond is based on their mutual trauma of being cheated on. What happens in that relationship? Do they just wallow forever?

I literally couldn’t believe this so I started asking around. AND ITS TRUE. Apparently try Nina thinks it’s “funny” that she is dating this guy. I was sent photos of them form someone because I still didn’t believe it and holy moly. What happened to her?? Who is this old guy she is dating?? I mean- she’s nothing really to look at but she could surely do better than that.

I met David and his new wife a few months back at a fundraiser and neither of them mentioned this! I can’t say I blame them. I wouldn’t want to be associated with this level of insanity. His new wife is beautiful and was very pleasant and nice to me. Good for them. Sheesh!

I saw her at Vignettos a few weeks ago or so with an older guy. I didn’t assume it was her boyfriend because there appeared to be no affection and she looked miserable. (Which is why I didn’t say hello). Wow. Guess I was wrong.

I feel a little bad for her that she doesn’t feel like she can get anyone but David’s wife’s ex husband. Whoever this guy is doesn’t appear to be making her very happy from the little I saw (which, admittedly was very little). What a mess!

I hear people are already gearing up to take Eves down. Bringing court reporters to hearings because they can’t believe her rulings. We were warned that she was dumb. Anyone else notice she stopped posting when she went unopposed? Now she’s got 6 yrs and we won’t hear a peep of all her “community involvement” til she’s up again. Loser. Her, Nina, Kal, they just lay low and hope people forget about them. They’re definitely forgettable.

What a joke of a judge. Doesn’t stop talking trying to impress everyone how smart he is comparing a criminal information to civil lawsuit complaint.
Spent 1.45 hours discussing a motion to dismiss. It should have taken at most 20 minutes. Not only does he grant the dismissal without leave to amend it’s with prejudice but he states I think you have a legitimate claim. Just doesn’t shut the f up. Can u say appeal. Waiting on his signed orders. One bad ruling after another.
Not impressed at all should be back in case SAO county case filings.

No. He’s not a good judge. Nice guy? Sure. But dumb as a box of rocks. He was so dumb they stuck him in case filing at the state. (Historically a spot for maternity leave returns and people who are burnt out. This man was young and dumb and they didn’t know what to do with him.)

      1. 12

        0

Hey Nina what’s up? Long time.
Anyway, the scoop on the “old man” is this—
He really isn’t that old, it’s the hair. I’m the one who broke the news higher on the this thread. I had this information because of my 2 degrees of separation from this dude, and I’ve been sitting on it for over a year. So yeah, they’ve been together at least that long. He’s not a bad guy. David’s new wife didn’t always look the way she does and has always been known to be a climber—social climber, man climber. That dude had some coin and she actually looked pretty homely. After a while, and with her involvement with broward health board, she started to see new opportunities—to climb both socially and w men. David has more means than the “old man.” The doctor/ex/new wife then started getting some work done. Upper blepharoplasty, brow lift, lips, cheeks, chin. She’s a new person. And she’s trying to push some social media persona. David is enamored by her. She’s a blonde (he loves blondes), and she’s ambitious. Nina used to be ambitious. Or he thought she was ambitious. All she wanted was a cush job doing nothing. He became disgusted by her lack of ambition once he got her this judge job. He was more attracted to shiny new doctor who is still trying to go places or become somebody. Nina was getting work done too, but awful work that made her look like an 80 yr old Boca grandma after her 3rd facelift. If someone looks up the new wife’s broward health headshot, she’s wearing a necklace with a heart beat graph on it. That is David’s heartbeat. She made a post about the necklace on her instagram years ago when he gave it to her. While they were both still married to other people. She called it a gift from a friend. Anyway, Nina got crazy. Remember David’s weird break with reality when he accused the then governor of putting trackers on his car? That was Nina. They break up finally, he gives her millions (which explains her high net worth on her financial affidavits because she came from nothing—her parents are dirt poor hippies), and she becomes more of a gremlin. David loses a bunch of weight and he and his wife looks happy and healthy. Nina gets with the new wife’s ex husband, who was also obviously hurt and upset by the cheating. He feels used and discarded. But what’s funny is that Nina has a history of using men and discarding them for better ones. She was never going to do better than David so when he left, she feels betrayed. She festers. She’s lost her looks. She meets the ex husband, he’s licking his wounds from being betrayed himself. But he was an innocent party. They get together to talk shit and commiserate. And I guess they’ve been commiserating ever since. Misery loves company. Nina looks awful and this guy needs someone who understands. It’s a perfect match. To answer the person above, yeah all they do is bitch and moan and wallow. Forever. I’ve seen them travel together and they post pics smiling—but I have it on good authority that those photos were posted with the hopes that it would get back to David and his wife. As if they care. They don’t. It’s sad. And pathetic really. David seems to have won. Nina lost the plot. She became a judge but then so what? She’s an absolute dud. What kind of satisfaction exists in her life aside from her ugly little dogs? (Sorry I get it, they’re cute or whatever. But they’re not really. Bad breeding). So yeah, Nina and her dude seem like heavy dark energy. David and his wife seem happy and light. Nina reaped what she sewed. And half her life is still ahead of her.

Poor Nina. One more stretch job and she’ll be shaving that hair lip from behind her ears. She was dumped because she’s a big time downer with deep seated emotional problems and really ugly toenails and nose hair.
          She’ll never be a Kardashian.

Someone as vain as Nina would not have ugly toenails or a nose hair issue. This is the hit squad at it again.

Thank you for the detailed synopsis of what has turned out to be quite the story…

Funny- I know the other side… I almost feel obliged to defend her because she takes care of my father in law and has for quite a while (since about 2017). I can tell you that other than losing a little weight, she looks exactly the same as she always has. She has been always focused on her appearance from what I’ve seen. She does seem “lighter” from a personality standpoint (using your language) , but she’s always been kind and sweet to him and very smart. She’s never mentioned any of this other than saying she is “very happy” (I congratulated her on her marriage when I noticed the name change on the door). As much as the cheating thing is fucked up, I can’t say she is a bad person. I’ve never asked about any of this shit previously but now I’m tempted to at his next visit!

I can not comment on the other people because I don’t know them (I’ve seen the ex in passing when they were together in her office) nor have I ever seen Nina in person, but I can say that the doctor is very attractive- but everyone has varying opinions on what attractive is…

Wait so your dad is a patient of David’s new wife? How’d you find this thread? And respond within 15 minutes of the post you are replying to? I don’t buy it. This is obviously David’s new wife trying to defend the plastic surgery claim. Because that’s the only substance to the comment. A random patient’s offspring did not find this comment within 15 minutes. We haven’t even named David by last name, or the wife by name at all, for you to know who the wife is. Only a person who is monitoring this thread for replies would have seen this…within 15 minutes…and identified the parties. YIKES, how embarrassing. Babe you’re dealing with lawyers, not doctors here. We can smell bullshit from a mile away. You just wanted us all to know you didn’t get a new face, you lost weight. Ok. Hahahahha.

            1. 8

              4

Omg this is mortifying. OBVIOUSLY it’s the wife commenting. The need to defend her? Who is her? She’s not named, she’s not even spoken ill of…and the comment says “I don’t know any of the people.” So….word to the wise (David’s new wife): don’t ever try to get away with murder. You will not succeed. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I’m pretty sure whoever this doctor is doesn’t read a lawyer blog. Stop trying to embarrass this poor woman.

Who is the woman we are trying to embarrass? Go on. Tell us. Who is she? What’s her name? Oh you don’t know? So she can’t be embarrassed. She isn’t named.
But it’s you babe. We know it’s you.

I tried to tell you this thread was full of David’s current and former bitches doing the back and forth. The novel above about Nina’s life story is inner circle accurate.

                0

Sucks that her inner circle would spill about her life like this. But that’s the thing. Her “friends” are all shit talking gossip hounds that pretend to be ride or die with each other. In reality they would sell each other up the river for a little dopamine hit that comes from that good gossip currency. Lilas, Marla, Michelle Z.…who else is she friends with? Who else would know all this about her and the dirt poor hippie parents. Damn.

On point. Nina is surrounded by enemies disguised as friends. I have no issues with Nina and don’t think it’s very nice to judge people’s looks on a public forum. I happen to consider her attractive, smart and very funny.

I think she’s smart too. I wonder why she hasn’t moved on like Mariya. It’s sad seeing young people with bright futures throw everything away to be a bump on the government log. Has she ever tried for elevation? Or for a job at a Big Law firm firm like Weekes? Did her ambition oddly cap out at County Court?

                    1. 0

                      0

Yup. Oddly capped out at county court. Threw her whole career away for obscurity. That’s why David lost interest. She stopped moving and shaking. Or caring at all.

If one is young and satisfied calling balls and strikes in baby court they’re probably lazy or possibly insecure and looking for an ego feed. I don’t know much about her at all but others I do know about and its totally a thing.

                      8

She probably loves the job, that’s why she stays. Some do. And she’s very intelligent and seems hardworking . She’s an asset to the Broward judiciary. There’s only a few smart ones.

She loves the pipe or cigar.
Where has that cigar been prior to her lipping it?
It looks like a Lewinsky cigar without the blue dress but same mess on it.
        It’s called job security.
It used to be a little less obvious than it is now.
        Now it’s bragged about.

Broward will be electing a new Chief Judge in February. Broward doesn’t need a self-serving Chief Judge. There’s been too many of them throughout 17’s battered history. Broward’s Chief Judge elections can be controlled by the County Courts because of the number of County Judges. A County Judge has a full vote equal to a Circuit Judge. This’s wrong for many reasons. The most obvious ones are related to County Judges not being elected or qualified to handle serious and complex Circuit matters, and therefore being paid less by the Legislature for the same reason. The point is a County Judge shouldn’t rationally be afforded an equal vote in something as important as electing the entire 17th’s leader. A half vote commensurate to the level of pay and responsibility is more appropriate. Politics and vote counting has been the dominant factor at play in the stakes of becoming and running the 17th and it must finally end. The rules must be changed to make the election process a more rational one by giving the lower status Judges an appropriate lesser vote thereby giving the more important Judges the proper say and sway in determining the direction of the 17th Circuit. BACDL and the lawfirms with influence should begin getting the changes now for a fairer vote before February for the betterment of Broward’s future.

It’s absolutely Ledee. There is literally no other judge this obsessed with status. Read it again in his voice. It reads just how he speaks. He’s the worst. It’s him.

        1. 5

          0

It’s totally ledee. That was my first thought too. It’ll be hilarious if we find out he’s running for chief judge. Or is pushing for someone in particular. I’m torn though—he’d never give up a captive audience over whom he rules would he? Is he going to be a chief with a docket? Does titter have a docket? If so, then it’s def ledee. Wanting the most prestigious post for himself—the 5 foot king of the judges.

        Fractional votes? Messy.

County should elect a County Chief. Circuit should elect a Circuit Chief as Chief Judge, who is responsible for the entire Circuit.

The issue has been discussed before, I believe.

County judges have no business in deciding who runs the Circuit Court, the same as Circuit judges have no business deciding who runs the DCA, etc.

Possibly the most vainglorious loafer chief Judge this circuit has ever had. Certainly the most incompetent, Jack Tuter remains the biggest embarrassment to hit the 17th since Ross.

Retard with a lisp for longest serving chief judge in Florida’s state history and certainly good enough for Broward now a dumpster diver in Pompano area, the multi-talented Moron Ross ! LOL

17th Super Pigs all who got popped in the end after wallowing in the public trough for as long as they could hold onto it. Sprinkles the Clown, Moron Ross, and A-Turd all washed up and recognized for what they are, or were. Now just footnotes that should serve as a warning to future porkers who are not held accountable until they’ve done irreparable damage to the reputation of a Circuit that’s out of control without proper supervision.

Tremendously successful attorney ? Now that is a laugh. More like smalltime wannabe political hack for every greased Broward judge that wound up losing their shirts sooner or later.

Fuck you. Mike was a loyal good friend. I’m sure you must have been an enemy of his (he probably bested you). If you are going to talk shit about the dead- have some balls and don’t be anonymous. You wish you could have the balls he did to take on assholes. But you are probably a retired judge that is still bitter that you realized what a nobody you still are.

Sorry to say I won’t miss either A-Turd of his slimly snail trail. Was always trying to grab a few shecks off somebody’s coattails running for office, mostly stupid Broward Judges looking for free rides.

So Nikki Haley has accepted a $250,000.00 campaign donation from the top billionaire that owns Linkedin, which is a huge Democrat. Obviously, she has been put in the race by the running scared Democrats to take votes away from Trump, plus if she wins she will be controlled by them. A vote for her is a Democratic vote.

Both her and her husband already live off of government money. Is she so stupid that she didn’t think the average voter could figure out by taking this money makes her owned by the Democrats? I think she just ruined any backing she might have had by the Republican Party.

If the court thinks Trump over valued his properties and they put a much lower value on them, then perhaps he needs to get his property tax lowered? I hope the people of New York realize the money they will be losing and how the loss off businesses will turn them into an even bigger ghetto.
