ELECTION DAY!

Living in the great Broward meritocracy means only the smartest, hardest-working candidates get through the JNC appointment process, or win at the polls. With that being said, Broward should have some new judges before the end of the day, with election results coming in this evening after the polls close:

The Broward county court match-ups for 2022 are:

Mike Ahearn v. Chris Brown v. Suzette Hyde (Solomon open seat)

Mardi Cohen v. Kaysia Earley

The Broward circuit match-ups for 2022 are:

Lauren Alperstein v. Andrea Gundersen

Alex Arreaza v. Bill Haury

Gary Farmer v. Rhoda Sokoloff v. Tania Williams (McCarthy open seat)

Tamar Hamilton v. Denise Kistner v. Lorena Mastrarrigo (Perlman open seat)

The Palm Beach match-ups are:

County: Paul Damico v. Karen Velez

Circuit: Caryn Siperstein v. Alcolya St. Juste (Kastrenakes open seat)

When is David Haimes’s term up? I think Haimes is the most worthless POS judge in the history of Broward County. I’m definitely going to work hard for whoever opposes Haimes, a totally inept and lazy waste of space.

haimes flat out lied when he said there was no reason for me or the other jurors to worry about our names being publicized! it’s in the record. i do not lie. haimes lies. haimes = disonest POS! haimes stinks! zero integrity! i will work hard for his opponent, no matter what.

I do not know David Haimes as a Judge but I knew him as a federal prosecutor. I find Jane Doe’s description hard to accept. When he was prosecutor, he was hard but fair, and always well prepared.

i’m sorry but haimes is total garbage. absolute garbage. i was a juror in his courtroom in ’19 in a free speech case in which both sides were trashing each other online. so we asked him in writing in open court whether we should worry about our names being published by the plaintiffs or defendants. he basically said (almost verbatim): “ah, don’t worry about it. we’ll address it if ever comes up.” i don’t know why he couldn’t just be freakin’ honest and say, “yes, it’s possible. your names are part of the record.” if he had, i would have bailed. i just wouldn’t have showed up the next day and said i had a medical emergency. now, sure enough, the names of all 6 jurors are in a blog post on a website run by 1 of the parties. haimes = a-hole! now, i spoke to a lawyer friend who basically said we have no recourse; the blog is free speech and definitely in the public interest. he also said haimes had a chance to fix our f-up verdict by granting the post verdict motion but he didn’t! in my lawyer friend’s exact words: “HAIMES SCREWED UP BIG-TIME! HE ADMITTED IN THE TRANSCRIPT THE STATEMENTS WERE NOT STATEMENTS OF FACT BUT THAT IT WAS NOT HIS CALL TO MAKE – IT WAS THE JURY’S. BUT FLORIDA LAW SAYS COURTS (NOT JURIES) DECIDE WHAT IS FACT AND WHAT IS OPINION.” i hate you david haimes. you’re a total jerk.

        Jane Doe,

Your attorney buddy is 100% correct.

It is well-established that courts — not juries — ultimately decide if a challenged statement in a libel/slander action is one of fact capable of a defamatory meaning. if Jdg. Haimes did indeed say at the hearing on the post-verdict motion that the call was not his, then he was a zillion percent wrong.

        Shame on Haimes.

        Good luck,
        Jay

Why does it matter that your name is on this website? If someone really wanted to find you or come after you because of jury service they don’t need to depend on the blog to do it.

The days of keeping Broward Judges in the back pocket through campaign contributions are over. Things were a lot simpler back when.

Diaz- stop posting about yourself. 😂. No one else in the world thinks being a traffic judge for 30 years makes you a “winner”.

Bob Diaz has been and continues to be, with his most recent falling asleep on the bench routine, the biggest embarrassment to the Broward Judiciary. The only person that doesn’t know it is him. The other judges detest the guy.

“It was the beginning of the end for merit selection,” wrote Harry Anstead, a retired justice, in a Tallahassee Democrat op-ed July 17. “Gov. Askew’s best efforts to keep politics out of the system had been thwarted all because of a failure to include the critical make-up of the nominating commissions in the protective framework of the constitution. As a result, we are right back to a system where the governor, and partisan politics, control the entire process.”

That’s a sad epitaph for a great reform, and it bodes ominously for Florida’s future.
