I didn’t realize how prevalent the filmmaking bug was amongst the top tier of the legal profession. Is this common everywhere or just in places like South Florida, New York and Los Angeles. I guess there’s a reason why there’s a Hollywood here too. I should’ve realized. Bravo.

As someone who knew Harry Gulkin, all this nonsense about giving the award to non-directors needs to stop.

Ok, so it was a nearsighted idea to name an award after a Filmmaker – who knew there would be so few.

But former actors?! C’mon man.. and besides, Gottlieb and Kroll were only extras in those films.

This type of commentary is overly negative. And certainly not fair.

Broward County has taken its fair share of slings and arrows. Sure. But why denigrate the achievements of the few that have, or are trying, to excel?

For every Sheriff that went to prison, and for every criminal drunk driving Judge, there are those good lawyers that work their legal cases and make, or act in, films.

For every unqualified spoiled brat baby ingrate rich kid that gets appointed to the bench over truly deserving lawyers, there’s a great lawyer polishing off a Golden Globe winning script whilst awaiting the jurors deliberations and verdict.

For every robed lazy fraud that pretends to be a public servant, there’s lawyers hustling their butts off in craft services, or as grips and production assistants hoping to one day argue in the Supreme Court, and see their own version of Lies My Father Told Me on the silver screen. Just like our beloved Herb Galkin.

So go easy. Life is a series of choices. And passion is to be appreciated, if not always understood.

These Imdb entries are old credits from the 90’s. It looks like they were acting before law school? Would they still qualify for the Gullie if not still active in the arts?

Thinking aloud here. Isn’t being at the forefront and responsible for large scale complex trials kind of like directing a movie?

And wait a minute….isn’t Gottlieb the ONLY legislator who voted against the “Son of Drew Atria” law?!

That was the bill, (which passed despite Gottlieb voting against it), about protecting court appointed lawyers.

      But, this has been proven.

Israel GAVE them Gaza yet they chose to act like, well, …see above post.

Spite may be right. There’s a someone at BACDL that was upset over the handling of Gary/Bruce thing. Also worked at PD once.
