It just bothers me that they were saying all these things about her being impaired. How could she be impaired, and yet she was able to walk in a perfectly steady and straight line for quite a distance and with her hands cuffed behind her back without ever wobbling or falling? I saw her booking pictures. They claimed her eyes were bloodshot and glassy but they were perfectly white and her eyes are naturally glassy. That I know. They also claimed her speech was slurred, but I heard it. Her speech was perfect in tone and pitch. Her answers to the cop’s questions were responsive, appropriate and intelligent. She was not all over the place or talking crazy. It is just terrible when people make such accusations with a straight face. For all the people who are rejoicing at her conviction, I ask you this question: How would her conviction make anyone’s life better, happier, or less miserable than they already are? When we wake up tomorrow, regardless of her conviction, we shall all continue to be miserable and have all the problems that are plaguing all of us already. No one should ever take pleasure in the misfortune of another human being. If you laugh at a person’s misfortune today, you might be next tomorrow. The downfall of a person is not the end of their life. Judge Imperato will not fall from this incident. This is just a temporary hitch in her life from which she shall emerge stronger. She has a whole lot going for her. She is brilliant, beautiful, has a good heart, and a great family. She shall overcome! We should all wish her and her family well. People should stop hiding under cover of anonymity to make inappropriate remarks and comments that they cannot stand behind. Everyone should either be quiet, or have the courage to put their name on any comment they author. I just did.

Chunkwoma, shame on you to call yourself an attorney.

You have three judges who were caught on cam. ONLY ONE had the dignity to step up and plead guilty.

The other two have given yet another black-eye to Broward County and make a mockery of the decent judges that sit on the bench.

It is great that these two can always come together for a common cause like they did today at the December 20, 2014 Deerfield Beach Delta Lodge 519 Community Outreach Christmas Dinner where State Attorney Mike Satz, Public Defender Howard Finklestein, and Judge John Fry all came out to serve and help feed the community. Also in attendance was Sheriff Scott Israel who brought gifts to children while Mike Satz gave a personal donation to the Delta Lodge 519. The event was hosted by Terry Scott, the renowned community organizer.

The joyous event was hosted by Terry Scott, the renowned community organizer, bringing together Michael J. Satz. Office of the State Attorney. 17th Judicial Circuit. Broward County, Howard Finkelstein Public Defender … “And each shall stand Equal” This is what the Broward Public Defender’s Office stands for and strives for every day. This photo is so touching ……. please pass me another signed absentee ballot, hope my tears of Christmas, Chanukah and Kwanzaa Joy do not smudge the ink as I fill in the circle of the “Sanctimonious Ballot”. Please pass me another palm card.

Laura Chukwuma, very noble of you to stand up for Judge Imperato. I say to you; How long have you known the Imperatos ?20-30 years? How many family functions of theirs have you attended?? This is not a first mistake by far. The public knows this is her second DUI. But, there were many many other times she drove after drinking Chardonnay and other wines. As a attorney and Judge she obviously knew the law. But, she thought she was above the law. Yes, she should be held to a higher standard. She knew and handed out punishment for others who violated this precise law. Did she ever hold others to a lower standard because they were not a lawyer when she sentenced their DUI punishment? I think not. She did this to herself. I am sure more will come out just in time for her appeal.

    Ms. Chukwuma

Why do some folks not see the pathetic pandering in signing one’s name to these judge defense entries? Other folks know u could have written the same thing, but by saying “hello judges – this is ME Laura coming out here to protect a judge!”, well, it reeks as bad as an elevator full of throat-clenching cosmetics & perfume (hint, hint)

In fairness, I hear often of your charity to defendants & others. Though a trial lawyer you may not be (“I could testify at trial that I know she has glassy eyes…etc.”), I admire your excellent reputation as a benefactor to others in need. Just please stop w the transparent brown nosing.

I thank you for your reply to my comment. Everyone should be encouraged to express their opinion like you and I have done. Yesterday, December 20, 2014 was the first time ever, that I posted anything on this blog or anywhere else. Other judges have been involved in controversies in the past, but I neither weighed in nor commented. The reason I had to comment on this was that it bothered me that the facts of her that favored her were not brought to light by anyone on the blog in accordance with due process. Every case should be tired on its own facts as we all know, regardless of malice, prejudice, or a person’s past. Even if Judge Imperato were not a judge, I would still have defended her on the facts that I talked about because everyone could make the same observations that I made about her case if they could just set aside their personal feelings, prejudice or malice towards the judge. One of the reasons people do not sign their names on their comments is because they fear they would be attacked by people that disagree with them. I would still sign off on my comment even if it was unfavorable to the judge. When you believe in what you are saying or doing, you are not afraid to put your name on it. Putting your name on something like this is actually a double-edged sword because you do not know who likes or dislikes the judge. In a matter like this where there are more haters than lovers on this DUI conviction, taking a view that is not popular with the haters hurts me rather than it could ever help. But I’m not looking to be loved or hated by telling the truth about the obvious facts of the case. I stand to gain nothing from opening myself up for attacks. But in the process of telling the truth about the obvious facts, I welcome your disagreement and thank you for your contribution to the conversation. I would like you to note that on the same day that I posted my comment on the DUI conviction, I also posted a comment on Happy Holidays regarding our State Attorney Michael Satz, and Public Defender Howard Finklestein at the December 20, 2014 Deerfield Beach Delta Lodge 519 event. I put my full name on my comment about the event, just as I did on Judge Imperato’s case. I just believe in putting my name on my comments whether they are good or bad. That’s all.

Stop the bullshit Laura!!! Are u defending her because she’s favorable to your cases or because she’s your friend??? How can you call yourself Christian and take your client’s money and leave them rot in jail??? Stop that and start fighting for them!! You walk in the courtroom with a lot of make up a fake wig and fake jewelry to impress people and do shit for your client!! Maybe If come back being a man, because you are not a real woman, maybe you can represent them better!!

It is well known that Imperato would nuke people after losing a trial. (if they didn’t happen to be a fellow police officer) I think she should have gotten the maximum for this reason. In lieu of that I think the Supreme Court should remove this dangerous drunken driver before the headlines could change from an embarrassing Judge On Trial one to become a non-forgiveable one like Judge Kills Innocent Family In Drunken Crash. I have no faith in the JQC so I implore the Supreme Court to skip the formalities and do what needs to be done.

When I read some of the nonsense written by brown nosing attorneys who think they have something to gain from putting their noses where the sun don’t shine long enough in an effort to get a good ruling or falsely ingratiate themselves the next time they appear in front of one of these drunk idiots in black after a jury has found them guilty, it makes me happy that I don’t practice criminal law. Obviously this Laura cares more about that than she does in protecting public welfare. Any one or all of the three judges that have appeared in the news for being intoxicated while operating motor vehicles could have just as easily cost some law abiding citizen his or her life or that of their family. There should be zero tolerance when it comes to this. She can call people haters all she wants if that’s her agenda, but she is the one that looks like a fool whether she defends for a living people like this or not.
And just as side note, she isn’t doing herself any favors from what I’ve seen in Broward by brown nosing anyone. They have memories as short as their attention spans.

Judge Imperato needs to serve her time just like shes always been so fond of administering to defendants found guilty and in some cases which I have observed myself, with great relish and an attitude that is not befitting any judge. It’s not about whether you like or dislike any particular judge.
The law is the law and a double standard of its application is not its intent.
You can not act as a sitting judge whether it’s in broward or not and disobey the law yourself and then expect to get away with it, or that the laws somehow do not apply to you.
That’s what I see as a very real problem in Broward with some of its judges.
She had her day in court which she is entitled to, she was found guilty by a jury, and it’s not the job of Ms. Chukuma or anyone else to second guess the findings of that jury.
Ms. Chukuma should know that if she’s practiced law for any period of time.
If she has forgotten it, then she needs to get into another line of work.

laura, did you close your eyes & ears to the testimony of the citizen who saw her driving dangerously? let’s keep our eye on the ball here: the jury got it right.

I wonder what Miss Chukwumma’s argument would be if she had had a car full of her kids that was forced off I-95 and all of them were killed and she survived the incident?
She was not present during the trial and had not been hired to represent this drunk judge and obviously didn’t hear what fellow motorists testified to before issuing her own opinion on the Imperato DUI/Reckless Driving matter.
I don’t know if she has children, and I don’t know what kind of attorney she is or what, but I wouldn’t hire her to clean my garage from the sound of her patronizing and obviously self-serving statements about a judge that was found by this jury to be guilty of both charges. Who the hell does she think she is?
In the same video she’s talking about, Judge Imperato of Broward County was seen to wobble all over the place walking back to the police car and slurring her words all over the map as well as disobeying an order to exit her car after being ordered to by the police officer many, many times.
As a former police officer and prosequtor then Broward County Circuit judge, I wouldn’t hesitate to guess how Judge Imperato would have viewed any defendant charged with the same offense behaving in the same manner.
She worked the justice system, rolled the dice, and to the benefit of society, she was found to be guilty.
Now keep her off the road and from behind the wheel of a two thousand plus pound car, and if you can, get her off the bench. You deserve better than that down there.
You’ve had from what I’ve read about a real rash of bad judges running the gambit from drugs to alcohol, smashing into police cars, interstate medians while filming herself doing it from her cell phone, ramming repeatedly courthouse guard gates in the judges’ parking lot on the way to work with the intention of holding court, to one sleeping with the prosecutor in a case she was hearing where she sentenced the defendant to death and then lied about the whole thing. Now do something about it. Tooting their horns like Miss Cuckwumma only serves to embolden this kind stuff.

Can someone please tell me how her being a judge was at all relevant to the offense? Me thinks this case comes back on appeal.

Was it good judgment for her to have shown her badge?

Does the definition of “normal faculties” include the ability to make good judgments?

Shouldn’t a judge know she wasn’t entitled to an attorney at the time of the stop?

Wouldn’t a judge know a refusal would result in loss of license and negate a claim of not understanding implied consent?

Her being a judge was relevant.

Sounds more like she was dropped on her head at birth! It’s nothing new. There seems to be a lot of brain dead people out there. She’s just one. I watched the coverage on channel 7 and 10 of the Imperato trial and was singularly unimpressed by the representation provided by both her attorneys in her defense. I don’t know how others feel about it, but they looked like 2 moronic idiots facing the firing squad with the way the jurors were looking at them and the short and nasty way they treated the witnesses including the cop that pulled her over after receiving the tip from another guy in a car that had witnessed her bobbing and weaving and forcing other drivers off the road. They had an up hill battle from the beginning if you ask me. Her booking photo looks likes she pulled an all-nighter way after last call and the part when she was standing in the BAT looks like something out of “The Walking Dead” Season 4, Episode 2.
The arrogance shown by her when she was first pulled over was like a cry for help where there was none. She may have looked like a pole dancer when she was young, but now she just looks washed up. Why she was allowed to leave the legal function and drive by all those who must have noticed her apparent condition is anyone’s guess. I guess nobody gave a chit. Too bad. Too sad. But I wouldn’t want her hearing my case. Interesting how old alchies all look the same. Even blond ones.

    “Her eyes were always glassy”

Hey Chukwoman – how does that “help” a DUI defendant?!

I mean, the point of all the ‘haters’ here is that, yes, Imperator was often drunk and, therefore, had glassy eyes a lot. I just don’t see how your idea of testifying that a DUI driver always has glassy eyes is supposed to help?

So its finally happened. It’s been on its way for a long time. The only surprise is that it took so long. Hanging out with former defendants at local Italian restaurants wrapped in white table cloths and smothering oneself in Sambuca till wee hours took its toll at last. Didn’t this judge appear in the papers a few years back about this same thing? She’s not a bad chick, just a little lost and lonely with the look in her eyes telling it all. Being a Broward judge has its drawbacks after you’ve worked it at every bar in town a few times. Its not all its racked up to be obviously. You can ask Gardiner about it for more info on the topic.
The time for honoring herself has cranked down to a precious few months after a verdict has finally brought another Broward judge to where reality has found a way to bring her back to an inescapable conclusion:. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.
The trial was a disgraceful charade of yet another Broward judge who needs rehab and affection more than she needs the position of sitting in judgment of others.
Calling the Broward courthouse a “Clownhouse” is an understatement. If Broward judges can’t conduct themselves properly, then they really need to move on and get off the public dole.

I never know when one of the sad clowns is being serious or going for a laugh. Some of them are so dumb it’s sometimes hard to tell. I have to bite my lip to not burst out laughing when it turns out they aren’t trying to be entertaining.

Another Broward Judge gets it handed to her this time by a wpb jury? What’s Broward coming to? End corruption. End drunk public officials. End drugs in the work place. Put an end to Broward judges eating from one end of the public trough to the other without oversight.

Don’t underestimate the value of the goodwill shown by Mr. Satz and Public Defender Finklestein serving turkey dinners. Having some quiet conversations with one another and enjoying the day was captured in this photo. These guys talked alone in a giving atmosphere fostered by Mr. Scott’s great event. Its common sense that this coming together benefits our community.

Laura Chukwuma is known as the best and most competent attorney in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida. She is extremely brilliant, highly knowleadeable in the law, zealous, very beautiful, exotic, unique, very fashionable, very charismatic, extremely popular, consciencious, very friendly, and not arrogant or stuck up. Laura Chukwuma carries herself with dignity at all times and commands the respect of everybody in the courthouse, including the judges, prosecutors, court deputies, and everyone else. When she walks into the courtroom, the world stops, and everyone who does not already know her, wants to know who she is because she is such a rare and impressive personality to behold. She fights for all her clients with all her heart and represents a whole lot of people for free for various matters, including me, and she is certainly not expensive. Anyone that ever has anything bad to say about her is because you do not know a thing about her; you are jealous of her; you are totally intimidated by her lager-than-life personality; you are utterly ignorant and irresponsible; or she refused to take your case because she does not agree to represent jerks, liars, violent murderers, and people who rape children unless they did not do the crime and they have been falsely accused. Most people that are charged with similar offenses like her client and who are represented by other lawyers get a lot more time in prison than her client. Ms. Chukwuma’s client is known to have gotten a whole lot LESS time than other defendants who committed similar Grand Theft crimes and were represented by other lawyers. If not for the fact that Ms. Chukwuma fought so hard for this her client, her client could very easily have received 30 years in prison or more like other people would usually get for this kind of crime. After everything Attorney Laura has done to help me, I cannot sit by and watch liars like you unfailarly smear the impeccable reputation she has earned for herself as the best and greatest lawyer in this Broward County, and Laura Chukwuma certainly has my highest recommendation and commendation as the best lawyer ever, and the only lawyer I know that can get you out of your legal problems with no hassle.
