JAIL ISSUES

Pictured above is Hillsborough County’s proactive order giving Leo’s discretion to release new arrestees on charges up to 3rd degree felonies.

It’s an important step, and hopefully will be considered here.

Full jails mean potential outbreaks, and outbreaks mean transports to local hospitals for treatment. BSO is preparing a response to our request concerning medical capabilities in the jail, but it’s safe to say there are no ventilators in the jail. A full response is in the works, which we will post when available.

Full jails also mean dangerous overcrowding if there are extended closures and social unrest, and jails need to be able to accomodate violent offenders. New arrests, of course, are also a major concern for the introduction of the virus into the existing population, which is why it’s hoped Jack Tuter will consider an order similar to the one executed in Hillsborough.

STAY TUNED …

Really?? The county sheriff to decide who among those eligible pose a threat to the citizens of the county? isn’t that a judge’s job? Positive step? NOT. More like abdication of responsibility.

Stacking the jails would not seem prudent during this outbreak. Establishment of virus colonies could reinfect communities and cause additional strain on hospitals and medical support staff.
This virus management is not rocket science, but rather good sense and the courage to implement containment policy appropriately.

CARONAVIRUS CAN LIVE ON SURFACES FOR DAYS NEW STUDY FINDS

OBVIOUSLY BROWARD JUDGES HAVE NEVER BEEN IN PUBLIC RESTROOMS IN THE BROWARD COUNTY COURTHOUSE
THE TRANSFER RATE IS OF PARAMOUNT CONCERN

The jails could become a very dangerous incubator in a situation like this. It won’t be the first time. 1918 Spanish Flu, which actually originated in the US in Kansas, literally wiped out prison populations and military installations first from what I’ve read on the subject.

BSO Pretrial Services is actually taking the exact opposite approach to what is now happening in Hillsborough County. All new Broward cases that are JUST misdemeanor charges are no longer eligible for ROR to Standard Pretrial Services effective today (i.e misdemeanor petit theft that previously could have gotten ROR to Standard PTR, now must post bond or pray they are granted a straight ROR from the Broward bond court judge). BSO Pretrial services is now only allowed to be used in new cases involving felony charges (which may also include additional misdemeanor charges). Stay tuned for even more changes to BSO Pretrial Services in the coming days.

Guess who we saw in today’s P.M. bond Court.
None other than Mr. Todd Watson.
We’ll have to look into it but looks like a VOP and new charges along the same line as his previous ones.

State asking again for One Hundred Thousand a charge like the last time.

Doesn’t look like he took our advise to let it go and spend time with his kids. Sad.

    1969, Swine Flu.
Every forty years or so. Stick together, forget politics for now, and help all survive.

A few months if necessary will be worth it’s weight in gold.
Be patient and consider your neighbor.

Non violent or cases that cannot be resolved for the time being , should allow those defendants to leave a place that no one wants to be and the CDC has advised against.

Bet the sheriff would want that. Jail could really get bad quick
Of course those we all are really concerned about should remain there.
