MANDATORY JUDGES MEETING

Peter Weinstein has called a mandatory judges meeting Wednesday at 12:15 PM, location to be determined.  We’ll post more details after receiving the email.

It’s anyone’s guess why the chief judge is reacting so slowly to the crisis.  At least two circuit judges addressed packed courtrooms this morning by noting the furor ignited by their three embattled colleagues, by acknowledging jurists are indeed held to a higher standard, and by stressing the fact eighty-seven other Broward judges continue to ably serve the public.  It’s something Weinstein should have done long before the most recent debacle, but at least there are some leaders on the bench no longer content to wait for Weinstein to step up on behalf of the judiciary he represents and community he serves.

We’re working on the mea culpa transcripts for next week, so stay tuned …

Is it going to be a bring your own booze?
Fair question with as many drunk judges that have been busted lately.

Bill Gelin’s and this blogs bizarre call for the Chief Judge to do something about three impaired judges is analogous to President Obama asking the Miami Senior High Student Council to do something about the Veterans Admministration.

Impaired judges and what to do about them are the exclusive domain of the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission and then the Florida Supremes.

Apparently Bill Gelin has been in Broward County so long that he thinks it is the seat of the state government.

It may be fun to kick Weinstein, as Bill Gelin is wont to do, but state law makes it really, really, really, really, really clear that when it comes to judicial impairment or any other misconduct it is up to the JQC/Supremes.

Bill, why don’t you also petition Broward Animal Control to solve the national debt crisis. Jack Thompson

An aspiring or some type of statement without commenting on the pending cases for the other 5 judges would be nice. I know as a lawyer broward is the laughing stock of the tri county area. I would like to know why they are all picking on rosenthal and not the other judges so much.

And Imperato and Pollach didn’t try to come up this ridiculous story trying to blame it on ambien either. Rosenthal is a double whack-job. Imperato and Pollack are or better judges than Rosenthal could ever be even if she was reprogramed which could be nothing but an improvement. The woman doesn’t even blink her eyes. She’s like a robot but without it’s memory capacity. Obviously she doesn’t have any judgment capacity either.

A little late Weinstein, don’t you think? You could have probably put it off until they charged another broward judge or two with DUI.
You’re a dime short once again.

The sad part is the public will never discover the identities of the most drugged up or super alchy Judges because pros know better than to get behind the wheel after hours.

Pros also are smart enough to call in sick when still pissing blood close to start time.

Weinstein will have to show early for a change to make sure the bottles are set up and there’s enough ice to go around on Weds.

Individual Judges don’t take responsibility for their actions, why should Weinstein?

They would rather stick the torch up their snouts than admit their time is over. Don’t you get it man? Without the ability to take care of their own they are nothing.

DUE TO THE ARREST OF THREE OF OUR OWN AND THEIR ACTIONS IN ATTEMPTING TO SUBVERT THE LAW AND OUR FAILURE TO RESPOND TO MULTIPLE PRESS REQUESTS FOR COMMENT WE WILL HAVE AN URGENT JUDGES MEETING IN THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK

A lawyer named Alfreda Coward recently said this on the Sun Sentinel newspaper of Judge Rosenthal: “she acts like she is a prosecutor”

Now, as a comment that clearly impugns the integrity of a sitting judge, one would think it would have you upset? Is it because she is supporting Jahra that you are giving her a pass?! To be consistent, I’d expect that you would have sent something up to the Bar for her comment

Knowing Whiney Weinstein and judges in broward, all the liquor served at the meeting will be second shelf crap unless it was donated by the Cotrone brothers.
Schwartzy might donate a bottle of Stoly vodka, and Backman just might bring one bottle of Pauly Girl Beer. The one he’s going to drink that is.
The topic is how to avoid being pulled over for DUI.

to go after cowart for an opinion after a sitting judge drives polluted to work is imperialism at its finest…what country do you live in? Or is this Lynn?

Really, it seems everyone is taking some type of drug. From Ritalin to HGH and everything in between. depressed take some seroquel. Nervous have a xanax. Shortly, we can all smoke some pot. Was the drug Ambien prescribed? All you commenters do you take any drugs? A little oxy? A sleeping pill.

The whole country seems like it is on something. Free you minds. Don’t take anything even for pain unless your script has no refills. F’ drugs and f anyone who takes them but he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Chief Judge Weinstein is behind the eight ball once again, but what do you really expect from Broward judges unless it’s showing up drunk or drugged to work? What does this make, 3 of them now?

  18. 0

    0

Weinstein has been a dismal failure in administering the judges of the 17th. He has no docket himself so one might ask what does he do all day.
Is there no oversight of the judges at all.
Judges showing up late or drugged up after campaigning the night before, judges getting pulled over DUI with property damage and injuries after returning from rehab, judges with a penchant for really tall stories, judges that do next to nothing all day, empty courtrooms most of the time, all the while with a chief judge that can’t, won’t or who is incapable of doing anything about anything except to make the most idiotic and lame excuses for the judges under his watch.
And they call this the administration of justice?
Sounds like a good audit needs to be done of the schedules of all the judges in Broward County as soon as possible. How many of them have opposition this time or are under sanction of the JQC or the Fla. Supreme Court?
    Some place this Broward County.
And what is the mainstream media doing to inform the public of these dangerous judges driving DUI and showing up to work impaired? I’ve only seen one report on channel 10.

You too can have R.I.P. on your headstone if the Florida JQC and the Florida Supreme Court does nothing regarding the JUDGES “R.I.P” and tells the nation that,
“DRINKING AND DRIVING” OR “DRIVING WHILE IMPAIRED” IS PERMISSIBLE IF YOU ARE A “JUDGE”

Finkelstein crashes his automobile into a police car because he was so high on his client’s drugs that he had to be saved by Mike Satz and Al Schriber in order to keep his job. Then, 10 years later, not learning his lesson, he is caught buying pain-killers from a chiropractor in Sunrise and again given a major break on the case by the Federal prosecutor, Eileen O’Connor. This is the guy who is now preaching to judges about the evils of drugs and alcohol? A bit sanctimonious and hypocritical wouldn’t you say? Really Howard, don’t you know when to just shut up and not try to always be the caped crusader for morality in Broward County? Really, give me a break.

    what will a meeting accomplish?
the meeting is not open to public.
public learns nothing of why or how to stop it.
judge weinstein will be updating them on bathroom facilities in new building for all anyone knows.
unless he plans on abdication and appointment of the ty-d bowl man to be chief judge this is more of nothing.

LOL. Bad Judgment? It goes without saying it’s become the byword for judges sitting in Broward County.

Although the above link with pics of the DailyPress recounts the exploits of at least 13 (an unlucky number, although erroneous because they’ve left out a few Broward County Judges from the mix) it sure demonstrates the total lack of competence and oversight of these so called public servants as most of them that are still left requested to be transfered from criminal divisions to civil divisions where they can hide out to retirement when they can cash in big time for the poor judgment they have shown at public expense repeatedly.

Broward County sure has a bunch of real legal scholars who found it easier to suck at the public trough rather than make a living practicing law.

Who says public service doesn’t pay? Check out their net worth!

These honkers milk it to the max all the while showing they are completely unqualified for the positions.

If asked, I’d say they are a bunch of rank amateurs preaching hypocrisy from the bench of Broward County and apparently the rest of time nursing the bottle, popping pills or campaigning to keep their seats.

And the Chief Judge whose responsibility it is to keep these amateurs in line and has no case load of his own, which means obviously he doesn’t do anything for the money he’s paid, can’t even muster the words to explain the most recent rash of DUIs by three judges as they’ve smashed up their cars, caused injuries to fellow motorists, and while out campaigning the night comes into work impaired and before blames it on a ambien hangover after passing out campaign literature all night and running into a concrete barrier on 595 before running into a guard fence and then a cop car at the Broward Courthouse on her way to hear cases at 8:30 in the morning!

You couldn’t make this stuff up unless you were writing some kind of comedy skit for Saturday Night Live.

WHERE OH WHERE IS THE OVERSIGHT OF THESE JUDGE JOKERS

I don’t understand why they could not just give random drug testing in the courthouse. I am not being sarcastic. Large private and public entities do that and it would be a positive direction to take for the courthouse. Those who have had a problem should toss the ego if they are truly wanting to get clean and volunteer for weekly random drug testing, or volunteer to come in daily. They should also pay for it. If you truly want to help the community and keep your spot, you should have no problem with drug testing for yourself. What is the downside of that?

Weinstein will be walking on a tightrope on wednesday. If he uses this meeting to pontificate he will alienate not just the 2 that made statements from the bench friday but a whole lot more. He may want to reconsider this meeting. And FYI Peter you are a 2 term chief judge. It’s just a matter of what judge will replace you. You haven’t noticed but many of your brethren are openly talking about what an abysmal failure you have been. If I were you I wouldn’t run again. If you do you will only further embarass yourself.

What are the odds he starts off the meeting with one of his mean spirited jokes about a poor person he once sent to prison?

  30. 0

Peter needs to be replaced by someone with some operating knowledge of media and spin control.

He’s an embarrassment but it may not be his fault completely. He’s possibly too old to understand the rapid changing landscape of communication. He wouldn’t be the first one to fall victim to changing times. I feel now he should realize his shortcomings and retire for the sake of the 17th. More bad publicity will drag everyone down.

  31. 0

Whiney won’t retire now, nor give up his chief judge for two reasons. first he is lazy and doesn’t want to handle a division and his sons milk his chief judge position. Enjoy the months you have left whiney.

Weinstein’s lack of attention to the problems facing the Broward Judiciary astounds me. He could at least do something.
As far as Rosenthal is concerned: I didn’t expect much from a political appointee anyway. She’s just pushed the envelope a little far and needs to be transfered to Siberia.

  33. 0

The third blond judge to suffer from an appalling lack of judgment.
I mean, Don’t they have hormone therapy for things like this? Maybe some counseling. What’s the big deal? It’s not like they’re the only ones in the world who like to have a cocktail or micky and hit the road.
What about the ones that aren’t known about? It’s a fairly scary prospect it’s true, but, hey, there’s alway a silver lining. They’ll go brunette and use their own names and nobody will ever know the difference.

  34. 0

Rosenthal should be voted out. How can someone who violates the law so blatantly be a judge. The media, blogs, Sun-Sentinel Miami Herald, Browardbeat, MAOS, Bob Norman, Broward Bulldog and the Democratic party needs to vote this Rick Scott/Bill Scherer appointed Prosecutor in a robe.

Is Weinstein buying the donuts? How’d you like to be a fly on the wall with the lecture that’s coming. Maybe they should set up a permanent Bat facility to test broward judges before they go to work! It might be a very good idea by the looks of things.
It still wouldn’t protect citizens driving to work in the mornings.

Judicial oversight is no more than a fart in the wind of the blowhards of Broward and the rest of the state. and there’s a LOT of that wind going around.

Is the Judge that pulled her pants down and passed out drunk at a judicial conference in the stairwell of the hotel going to be there?

  38. 0

    0

    Hey 9:37

Good thing you aren’t a lawyer, because your argument that Alfreda Coward was simply commenting about a judge “driving polluted” lacks sense.

Coward’s comment was “Rosenthal acts like she is a prosecutor”, and had nothing to do with this driving thing.

  39. 0

    0

Rosenthal was a hot mess before the cops caught her driving impaired.

Wake up. She was appointed so she got there by the slime tube and she’s thought she’s hot tot ever sense.

Never been impressed by her ability, demeanor, and now that she’s pushing pills down her throat and running into cop cars, well, I’m not surprised by that either.

Let’s just hope the voters of this county kick her out.

McLawrence had better learn this time, that to win he’s got to play it like they do. So far he’s not.

Nobody wants to hear his regular bullshit again, nobody is interested.

He had better stop begging for the job and go on the attack or he’s waisted another filing free and everybody else’s time and money.

He’s got plenty of material on this whack now.

He had better use or lose it. Again.

  40. 0

We don’t know what Rosenthal was really on, but I sencerely doubt it was ambien, but her intention to preside over cases while she was under the influence is even worse than driving under the influence if you ask me.
This woman has no excuses that sound even remotely truthful so she should just give it up and join the long list of Broward Judges that just went too far.
She would not be a good candidate to represent the people of Broward County and if you ask me, she should be in rehab.

I wouldn’t want this woman presiding over any cases I was involved in. How could she serve the public in such a condition?
Her lies smack of the kind of self serving nonsense Broward Judges have become known for.

Weinstein should cut the crap and take a division like chief judges do in other circuits.
This clown does what exactly for what he’s getting paid?
Certainly not keep the other drunk and drugged up judges in Broward under control. So what does he do?
How much is this dude scraping from state coffers? All questions the media should be exploring but are not.
There is something fundamentally wrong with the Broward Judicial Scene and yet nothing happens and it’s not brought to the attention of the tax payers who foot the bill.
Broward County Court System is the joke of the state of Florida.

Its too bad they can’t control everything like in the slime tube. Once challenged some of these bats go bat shit crazy. Pop another pill and get some sleep so they can be rested enough to screw up the courage to face the people they usually get to lord over. Just don’t hit anything on the way to work, ie the place where they’re supposed to be when campaigning during the day.

How about giving the Judges who work 20 hours a 40 hour work week? How is it fair that certain judges put in 40 plus hours while others come in late and leave early 5 days a week.

    By Daniel Vasquez
    May 31, 2014

    We want to trust judges.

But something smells bad in Broward County: All three Broward judges arrested on DUI charges over the past six months refused to take either a blood or breath test.

Each refused to trust the justice system they expect the rest of us to have faith in. Instead, they taught us a lesson on jurisprudence: it’s stupid to take an alcohol or drug test when pulled over by cops.

    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/opinion/fl-dvcol-oped0531-20140531,0,7659598.story

Although refusing a blood-alcohol test results in an automatic suspension of a driver’s license, she can request a hearing with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to challenge the suspension, DUI defense attorney Carlos Canet, who is not handling Imperato’s case, said.

“Without a breath test, a DUI is much more difficult to prove,” Canet said. “She’s going to be golden, she’s going to be able to drive uninterrupted despite the alleged refusal … and unless she looks like she’s impaired [on the police video], she has a pretty good case.”

State records show this was Imperato’s second DUI arrest.

Weinstein should step up and lead by example or get out of the way and let another judge take on the role of leadership.
Weinstein should carry a full division like chief judges do in other circuits and not act like his position as CJ of Broward is part of an early retirement scheme.
What the hell does this worthless bureaucrat do all day for the money taxpayers are paying him?
His style of leadership is exactly what is wrong about the way these Broward Judges view themselves.
It’s time it stops and we get a responsible judge to lead Broward out of the stinking mess that has become out court system.
