MARTINEZ V. KOLLRA

Disorder in the court!

The always combative and entertaining APD Gus Martinez, who played a role in toppling Dennis Bailey, had a run in today with Ernie Kollra.

The video isn’t the highest quality, but since it’s already all over the criminal justice community, we thought we’d post it. Click the link above to download and watch.

Chalk it up to Zoom fatigue or otherwise, but in the end Kollra did the right thing, and gave Gus a standing recusal …

Its not zoom fatigue. Martinez is just a total and complete lunatic. How is this dude still practicing?

Gus is one of the best lawyers in the courthouse he had every right to defend himself after what Kollra did

They can’t help themselves in Broward. Doubt they want him in Civil either

Imagine Scherer, Kollra, Coleman and McCarthy in Civil. Ha. Mcarthy was already booted. Tooty gives the Civil boys the cream of the crop. Crim gets the rest.

You really think highly of yourself Gus. That is hilarious.

WHY WOULD A JQC JUDGE BE ALLOWED IN THE CRIMINAL LAW DIVISION WHERE LIBERTY IS AT STAKE

  2. 17

    24

He should go to jail for conducting himself like that. Kollra is so laid back. He would never call out someone for being a liar unless it happened.

      1. 28

Kollra’s always confused! He struggles to comprehend basic law and then lashes out like that when he can’t understand

His Chambers is a mess. Why does setting a hearing have to be torture?

Not surprised. Ernie always talking down to people it was a long time coming before someone told him something about his slick remarks.

Keep Kollra looking like a real mistake. Another Broward JQC judge strikes again. Next election will be great.

Kollra already had a JQC and now this. Probably not the best idea to go at Gus like that

Can’t imagine what Kollra was thinking. Either zoom fatigue or once again he didn’t think before speaking. Calling an attorney a liar is very serious and unless clearly proven is not something that you do.

I think Gus is correct. They never call out the prosecutors or police for lying. Its a double standard.

Broward ASAs lie about their name, the day of the week, and the color of the sky all in one breath. And judges don’t say a peep. Good to see Gus tell it how it is.

They’re not all bad but they’re all treated like children by Satz/Pryor. If they were respected by Admin and given even a modicum of discretion to cut through the racist garbage cases filed by dinosaurs with zero connection to reality WITHOUT having to beg a White supervisor for permission to work something out than maybe just maybe Broward ASAs wouldn’t be perceived as a bunch of spineless snotnoses. If a class of individuals are treated as untrustworthy losers than that’s how the world sees them. It’s unfortunate Satz/Pryor doesn’t understand this because maybe ASAs wouldn’t quit in droves if they were respected and could be allowed to blossom into staunch justice fighters.

Judge Fein should be next on here Bill. His comments on ZOOM are off the chain.

How many Zooms did Judge Scherer do from March 2020-March 2021?

Martinez is lucky. Now he dont have to sit there for 5 hours while Kollra calls every case on the docket where the lawyers aren’t present first.

A permanent recusal seems like a great win the PD won’t have to deal with that judge again way to stand up for yourself

      1. 10

        2

Mr. Weekes should assign all the Judge Kollra cases to Mr. Martinez now!!!!

    2. 12

The lucky one is Kollra and everyone else in his courtroom. They don’t have to deal with Gus anymore. That guys I so annoying and self important. He isn’t as great as he thinks he is- most see him as a joke.

Fein, Coleman, and Kollra have been rude to attorneys for months and months for no good reason except to cover for their own shortcomings.

Clients don’t mind doing the “Gus Time” extra days. They use it trying to understand what he was arguing about before the Judge got po’d and reset the case (again).

The video doesn’t work. Just a blank screen 📺
Gus is a champion for freedom and Justice. He deserves a medal for taking on these incompetent Broward Jokester Judges. We’ve got the worst judges in the state in Broward with the biggest idiot of all as Chief Judge.

I drove all the way up here and I don’t even get a plaque or free buffet

My understanding is that Kollra leaned towards the Defense and was more willing than most Judges to go for the Defendant. So what in the end did Gus accomplish? Risking cases going from a reasonable non-state-leaning Judge to Dan Casey or other State-leaning Judge. Yeah, Gus really showed em.

    1. 3

      4

Casey is actually professional and somewhat reasonable. Kollra just goes biiserk at times

      1. 7

Casey is the best. Stop being stupid.
Casey, Porth, Murphy, Weekes, Duffy, Lynch, Usan, Baiely, Bober, Davis, Merrigan, Siegel.
They need to give the rest a course in professionalism.

I’m here to clear the air. I actually did lie. I got caught and the only way I know how to get out of my mess is to go beserk like I always do. I’m here to confess. I’m a baaaad boy.

  18. 12

Interesting though Gus didn’t deny that he lied. only that other people lie too. 🤔

    1. 2

      3

That was the first thing he told Kollra that there was no lie. Video is only a small part. Apparently this went on for quite a while

  19. 6

Prosecutors lie? In court? But never to the jury right? Nor do their witnesses? Right? It has to be the truth. It was said in court.

The comments on this blog show how completely lacking the public defenders office is about maintaining professionalism and decorum in a courtroom. The fact that all of you look at this video and see a lawyer spew venom and scream at the judge and then blame the judge is absolutely ridiculous. I’m embarrassed of our profession to see this man and the way that he conducts himself. All of you should be ashamed of him too. If you’re not you don’t belong in this profession because you have no honor and you have no idea how a lawyer is supposed to behave. Gordon Weekes won’t get my vote if this is how his lawyers act.

Maybe if Judge Tuter had any control things would be different too. If he lacks the ability to lead them he could rotate them. To avoid the palpable burnout syndrome so many seem to suffering.

Fault in these situations is typically shared by all the parties. Thankfully there’s this Blog Forum to hold the judiciary accountable in their role since the Chief Judge or JQC won’t.

Kollra should be wearing a dunce cap, not a robe. He’s just another example of yet another arrogant Broward judge that doesn’t realize his place as a mediator of Justice, not an activist judge with a bad attitude.
If he can’t take the heat as such, he should step down. He has no business being a judge. When his term is up and he’s run against and left crying the blues about how he’s been singled out for replacement, he’ll have plenty of time to think over his actions and poor attitude.
Gus is a fine advocate for his clients and should be applauded for his passion and commitment to Justice.
