“Because I have faith in people” – that’s Peter Weinstein to Bob Norman, defending his decision to keep Gisele Pollack in drug court, earlier today.  The chief judge also confirmed Gisele’s relapse, and stated professionals said it was ok to keep her riding herd over a bunch of druggies after incident #1.  Interesting stuff, since we can remember criminal division judge Weinstein often having little faith in Defendants and their experts looking for alternative drug rehab sentences, way back when.  Oh well.  In any event, Gisele appears to finally be getting the long term care she deserves, while Broward’s tarnished drug court limps along without a full time leader, credibility be damned …

94 and there’s so much more – meet Jorge Castro, born October 14th, 1919.  Poor 94 year old Jorge must have mixed up his meds, since he was booked into the Broward County Jail last weekend, accused of unruly, felony level behavior.  A warning to all you 70-somethings: Jorge is out and about, although Pretrial Services is keeping a watchful eye.  Let’s just hope they don’t have cataracts too …

Matt, Meet Tom – everyone knows Matt Destry has a real thing for collecting court costs and supervision fees, but at least he never took it as far as Pinellas County’s Tom Freeman.  Freeman came up with something he called “the sentencing path“, recently obstructed by an appeals court.  Apparently broke ass people were kept on Freeman Road longer than statutorily permitted probationary periods, in addition to sometimes being stuck in holding cells with their phones after a visit to court, encouraged to reach out and find the funds they owed from friends and family.  Read all about it here, via the Tampa Bay Times.

    Police double dipping? Try our very own Broward County Judges! Seems Joel T Lazarus retired, came back immediately and hasn’t left yet.

    Ask about his new gig in the courthouse….

    Why is this allowed? People are starving for a raise and people like JT is allowed to RAPE the system.

    The time will come when someone will have to answer for this – unless rape remains legal

    I was sentenced to prison on a drug case after trial, but the 4th sent it back after it was learned the prosecutor was involved in an improper relationship with the Judge. After it came back it was learned the convicted felon Sheriff had illegally gathered the evidence, and that the chemist had snorted and sold most of what was left of the drugs in evidence. Based on these factors the State agreed to give me a misdemeanor because there was still a roach left they could retest, so I went to Drug Court. I’m almost done with the program, except court is usually cancelled recently because the Judge is high as a kite. Hopefully I can graduate soon, so I can move somewhere normal like Libya.

Lemme get this straight, local law enforcement identifies members of the crew, making Broward inhospitable for the home and car burglaries that lead to the felony lane fraud. Prosecutors convince the judiciary to stop granting convenience bonds on home burglaries, making Broward inhospitable for these crooks. So, they LEAVE BROWARD AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE TO COMMIT THEIR CRIMES, and you “blame” Satz like this is a problem for a Broward County resident. You’re completely out of touch, Gelin.

    Weinstein could not have made things worse for Judge Pollock by allowing her to return to the bench after the first drunken episode. Not that he really cares. He was too busy stuffing his face on vacation to be bothered. His excuse now is exactly what you would expect from somebody like him. He’s been a complete failure as chief judge in my opinion.
