QUALIFYING!

CIRCUIT AND COUNTY COURT JUDGE: Noon, Monday, April 25, 2022 – Noon, Friday, April 29, 2022

Partial list of judges up …

JUDICIAL PAY RAISES (and don’t forget the pension):

Budget negotiators treated court spending requests generously, and included Chief Justice Charles Canady’s top priority, a 10% pay raise for trial court judges.

Under the proposal, effective July 1, a circuit court judge’s salary would increase from $165,509 to $182,060, and a county court judge’s salary would rise from $156,377 to $172,015.”

Agreed but no one has the guts to run against incumbents and when they do they get slammed on the blog for one reason or the other

Judge Solomon and the others retiring are classy. Clinging onto a judgeship into old age is pathetic. Its also selfish to not make room for others with different viewpoints.

    Defending the death penalty

I disagree with your paper’s reasoning that the killer should receive a life sentence.

Mass murder and maiming are qualitatively different crimes from a single, double or triple killing. Nikolas Cruz reportedly admitted that he would have killed more people had his gun not jammed. I am conflicted on the death penalty, especially in such cases as that of Frank Lee Smith years ago.

His guilt in 1986 for raping and killing a young girl was a very close question, but once answered in the prosecution’s favor, the vote for a sentence of death was 12-0 once the jurors learned of Smith’s priors. DNA years later tied Eddie Lee Moseley to the murder and exonerated Smith, a two-time killer. But in a case as Cruz’s, arguments against the death penalty do not make sense.

It’s a guess as to whether all 12 jurors will vote for the death penalty, but to decide the question without a trial seems irresponsible, almost reflecting a lack of faith in our justice system. As Mike Satz asked, if we have a death penalty, when is it applicable if not in this case?

I would pay a special tax to have this case decided by a jury.

We all know how she got the job. The real question should be asked why CJ Tuter would have allowed Liz Scherer, with little to no experience, to try a case of this magnitude.
I think we know the answer to that question as well. Tuter’s old boss is Judge Scherer’s father.

Lets not forget that Tuter lost in his run for judge, only to be appointed a short time later, I think don’t need to opine the strings pulled on that one either.
To allow her to continue to torture the families involved any further than is absolutely necessary, is unconscionable.
She is unsuitable to be the judge in this case in my opinion. She simply does not have the experience required.

SHE’S BEEN WAY OVER HER HEAD SINCE TAKING THE BENCH
WHAT – MAYBE SHE HAD TRIED ONE CASE AS A SA
THIS RECENT SCAB WITH THE CRUZ CASE WON’T BE THE LAST
EXPECT THIS CASE TO BE AROUND FOR A VERY LONG TIIME
ITS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PUT AN INEXPERIENCED BIMBO ON THE BENCH

The Scum Sentinel is the reason so many poorly performing judges remain on the bench in Broward. They have consistently sidestepped important judicial issues for years. It’s the reason nobody subscribes to that rag of a paper. The Editorial Board are a bunch of liberal idiots who have absolutely no real interest in reporting the real issues that surround so many Broward Judges. Don’t kid yourself.

Yes, Judge Usan could have handled it. Judge Porter would’ve been perfect. Instead of doing odd jobs.

These families are getting so screwed over. They have a totally incompetent State Attorney Harold Pryor. They have Mike Satz and his friends who want to keep the case going forever so they can keep on double dipping. They have a judge who doesn’t have the experience to handle this case but she got the case because of her powerful dad, Bill Scherer. These poor families. Just sad to watch.

Can you imagine what a raging B she’s going to be when she returns to her division after this embarrassment?? What do incompetent people do when they’ve been embarrassed publicly and are also in a position of power?? They abuse their captive subjects. Can’t wait.

Then when she returned, she final continued cases that never even got arraigned during the pandemic and she said “doesn’t matter, should have been working on it.” Lady, you should have been working! The state doesn’t have to give me discovery til after arraignment! How can I work on the case?? Or did you not know that?

seriously how did Bryson get fined for not being on the bench enough and scherer took the entire 18 months of the pandemic off and no one says anything?

She said she still hadn’t made up her mind to give an appointment or even refile. Her daughter Colleen who recently graduated from vet school and civil attorneys such as Glenn Waldman is supportive of her running and hopes she runs. She said Ahearn has not been given the go ahead to file which is why he hasn’t qualified.

The latest twist in a case that has seen no shortage of surprises came after Broward Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer admitted that she acted prematurely on Monday by granting a state motion to reboot the jury selection process and start from scratch.
