Prosecutors, support staff and investigators are continuing their effort to determine exactly how many misdemeanor, traffic and county ordinance cases were involved. We can confirm that, as of this afternoon’s count, ASA David Weigel purposely did not process 116 county ordinance violations and 177 cases involving DUI charges. None of these cases were from arrested defendants. These cases were presentments by police agencies for review. We discovered that the mishandled cases were from 1997 to 2011, an average of approximately 21 cases per year during that time span. For perspective, in fiscal year 2013-14, the Broward State Attorney’s Office filed approximately 48,000 misdemeanor, criminal traffic and DUIs. When it was determined that Mr. Weigel was grossly negligent for not properly handling these cases, and that he had purposely concealed the files from his supervisor, he was fired.

Dui diversion finally comes to Broward
What about Miles Magraine’s kid?
Ask Holden
Poor Holden wanted him fired.
Peter Marcus Cohen?
What about him?
Who?
This is a cheaper method than filing it and the inevitable NG verdict after trial.
Get a life, Mike.
Anyone get the feeling the whole system is broken beyond repair credibility-wise?
That is all.
I always wondered what if anything he ever did …
They’re going to find a lot more ditched files when the building gets torn down.
Doesn’t the public deserve to know what if anything happens with ASA who quit with a cloud over them?
Prediction: Broward Clownhouse Performer Judge Hurley loses Oscar Nomination to relatively unknown Former Stripper in 2016 ! In a losing bid to make comeback cuts new disk entitled ” The Braindead Can Dance ! ”
Watch for further details while he continues to stumble.
Just wondering if someone was prosecuted during that time frame is there any recourse. Obviously cases and defendants were not treated equally or fairly.
and she’s out next week so a person in jail—-getting probation and would get out today is being set for June 1. What is wrong with this Judge. That’s her next available date. But does Weinstein or the jail care? Does anyone care? Bill—seriously keep the heat on these rogue judges. This is not acceptable!
Nobody cares because most people understand top lawyers are not going to work for $150,000 a year. Either become a Judge yourself or stop complaining. The system isn’t perfect but in a world of scarce resources it’s unfair to think courtrooms will run efficiently when the money isn’t there to put the sharpest in charge.
It’s also a Chief Judge problem. No leader, no satisfaction.
She sucks gifle.
Yeah, right ! These duffises take these jobs because the can’t do nothing else, and when they get them they don’t do anything anyway ! Lol. Being a judge in Broward county is like early retirement with perks! The courtrooms are always empty because they do next to nothing. Ask Diaz how to get away with it ! Lol
JNC process is the problem. The JNC is made up of successful lawyers and business people who pick dopes so rich guys will have the intellectual edge in court.
Forgot to file them, or favors?
$atzie can suck the spine out of any ambitious turd.
There might be a good reason that the cases were never filed. I’d like to see the case files to see if it was a bunch of .07’s or other cases that were not filed for a good reason. We probably won’t ever see the files.
I wonder, were the cases political? Keep your pension, go quietly into the good night, is it the usual scuzBroward deal?
Pigs love pig food until it starts to taste like dog food.
The presumption that $$ is the sole motivation is specious. Look at Murphy, Haury, Horowitz, Gates, Fry, Singhal, and others who had very successful practices and took pay cuts to wear the robe. Not everyone is motivated by money.
Singhal and Haury are the two brightest and hard working ones in the building.
If they dropped more cases this way then fewer Judges would be driven to drink.
Couldn’t criminal charges be filed against an Asa for something like this?
I don’t know about charges, but every freebie DUI name should be released to see if there were victims who didn’t get restitution, and to see if any of them were recidivists or later committed other crimes or hurt people later after slipping through the system.
It would be quite wrong to tarnish the names of people who didn’t get the benefit of their fundamental right to due process. If the other people had restitution coming to them, they have the option of filing a civil lawsuit.
Huh?
They were issued arrest warrants and that alone gets them same treatment as everyone else peering out from mug shot magazines at 7-11.
If I was Mike Satz I wouldn’t want the names coming out, especially if any of them killed people or were friends of the SAO.
They weren’t issued warrants, they were presented to the State for possible filing. Then, their files were stuffed behind file cabinets or whatever he did with them.
Ceiling tiles, best place
Nobody gets due process in Broward. These people shouldn’t be treated differently.
Johnny Carson on the list?
He filed charges everyday on people who made less serious mistakes. This is very bad.
Gross incompetence at the state is hardly news.
Who was this idiot’s supervisor and why aren’t others being fired? Is there an investigation going on by DOJ? Satz will downplay this, like the crime lab.
Why has Jay Hurley never had a real division assigned to him? Check it out. The truth is hard to ignore.
Between the racist lying police, incompetent prosecutor and corrupt crime lab, drunk judges and pervert bailiffs, it’s no wonder Broward is a crime ridden scuz pot.
Being part of racism is morally debilitating.
Broward Justice really does have a bad name! What’s happened to this place ???
Term limits is the best way to get rid of lazy judicial poronographers.
Roman style vomitoriums in new courthouse for gasto centric judicial officers?
Who got the contract to manufacture the gigantic white hood that will sit atop the new courthouse?
Fort Lauderdale Police Department Community Outreach Division is doing all the tailoring, stop by for a custom fitting 1300 W Broward Boulevard.
my fave rave is black lawyers doing it for pay
I always found David to be a fair and reasonable guy. Unfortunately it has been clear that he has been under pressure from his office to file all DUI charges, even the marginal ones, for the last few years. I wish him well and hope he has vested for his full pension.
now I see it, the judges , prosecutors and bailiffs are all bad or incompetent, whats left ,,oh, thedefendants and the defense bar, I guess they are the moral and honorable entities, looking at the two of them I guess they have everything in common, brothers to the end. hmmmmmmmm
Ironic it is seeing as how the ones who are supposed to wear the white hats have corrupted things so beyond repair that one must look everywhere else for salvation.
Like allot of others who are always looking for a way out of work, he never did much anyway, so no big loss. Just put a few more drunks back out on the street. They can join all the drunk Broward judges.
Dont Blame the Players ……….Blame the game !!
Haury is arrogant. Opposition on it’s way
Just shove the files in a file cabinet and forget them. Then cry about why raises aren’t coming your way. What’s so unusual about that? It’s business as usual hen your sucking at the public trough. It goes on all the time.
Broward’s real joke is on the tax payers of the State of Florida. !
Think of aaaaaalll that money lost. We know that even mandatory minimums are not mandatory for “the chosen” and the big “chooser” saying “let MY peoples goooooo”
Howdy Y’all:
I’m a Sheriff from a state just north of y’all, and in desperate need of help. See, the jail houses up this way are already chock full of your Mr. Tibbs types, if you foller. What we need is some jail space in a southern county that understands the basic facts of life like folks up here, and for a reasonable rate. If y’all can help, peel it back at the next southeastern regional meeting, and let’s make a deal. Keep up the good work, and I guess some of them Heeby types is allright after all, based on the good Christian work y’all teamworking together down there in Broward.
Clever posting, but agreed, being a racist is hardly a cowardly act in this day and age. It takes guts, what with Pesident O and all. The gene is always there in a sadistic loser though. Just add power!!!!
Some of them are simply neurotic and mean not necessarily bigots.
