SAO STAFFING UPDATE

The following email was reportedly sent from a remote location by Monica Hofheinz earlier this afternoon throughout the SAO regarding ongoing staffing issues during the crisis. Attorneys are able to work from home with the assistance of staff, so support employees have a ton of concerns going forward, just like in the other stakeholders’ offices.

The email:

Weeks ahead

We know many of you are asking about the weeks ahead due to the Chief Judge Tuter extending his Administrative Order closing the courthouse to the public and jurors through April 17th (for now).

We are formulating an amended plan for our staff and will inform everyone through email, ReadyOp and the office hotline (954-831-6191) as soon as we can.

The administrative leave option is in place through this week. We are reviewing our options under the new Federal legislation regarding paid sick leave.

In addition we are staying in communication with the Governor’s directives which could change everything.

Mike should term all the 2bl dipper agreements now that there’s no trials or the need for whatever they supposedly do.
The half a million bucks could go toot sweet into emergency fixes to protect all the workers.
Technology now and double dippers no more.

Have sanitizer stations been installed? Everyone six feet apart? Justice must go on but at the expense of ??? Going to work sick? Leaving sick relative home? Not all symptoms, but some, then go in? The State needs to be clear. Most importantly, does it apply to all or just the some? (As seen so many times)

    Good Morning,

I hope this email finds you all well and taking the appropriate precautions to keep yourselves and your families safe.

Following the advice of health and government organizations, and following the direction of the FloridaSupreme Court Chief Justice, we have cancelled all but emergency and constitutionally required court proceedings in an effort to reduce the number of people coming to court and therefore, do our part to reduce the spread of coronavirus disease COVID-19.

While the courts are closed, our mission-critical teams of judges and staff are working to identify and lay the groundwork for moving to virtual court appearances through the use of technology.

This is a significant undertaking with many details to consider – identify technology platforms, expand bandwidth, acquire licenses, acquire webcams and other hardware, train our personnel and court users. We must also consider questions such as: what is the role of the Clerk, how do we integrate court reporters, the record, and court interpreters; how is a record created and transmitted, how are orders created and transmitted, how can individuals be sworn and documents or evidence be presented. These are important questions that require thoughtful and deliberative analysis of our existing court processes as we transition to new digital processes.

We are working as quickly as possible to come back online with comprehensive, workable, accessible solutions. We ask for your patience. Many of you in the past have asked for continuances of court events due to illness, or workload, or other unforeseen contingencies. You ask us to understand. We are asking you for your understanding in this brief continuance of court operations so that we can deliver to you the justice that Miami-Dade deserves in a manner that protects the health of our community and our judges and staff. We will be online again as soon as possible.

    Thank you and stay safe,

    The Honorable Bertila Soto,
Chief Judge Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida

WISH WE HAD A CHIEF JUDGE HERE IN THE 17TH THAT HAD HALF A BRAIN INSTEAD OF A BURNED OUT POLITICAL PIMP

It’s not all his fault. Look at the caliber of the Judges. The Satz mess clogging everything. Forman. A PD that’s a TV star. Don’t forget Jaab holding the microscope. Tough job.
