Hey Mark.. Finkelstein is before Lewis on the ballot.

Weeks should get behind Mark Finkelstein as he will give you a top position.

20 years ago Mark had the balls to run against a sitting judge. He has character, class, and will zealously fight for justice.

Mark do this for the people, for your family, and for those in the legal community with the balls to go against the establishment.

So Willie Weekes won’t be walking into it like he was appointed by the Ghost of Martin Luther King after all.
It was only a temporary spot on the Lit’l Howie Clown Show.

Will the new PD be allowed to fire all the dead weight?

It sure would be great for Gordon, Bob Wills, Cathy and any leftover 6-figure/no cases supervisors to be shown the door!

Sprinks and clan are probably courting the exact same idea. The animosity is just below the surface.
Running Marc Finkelstein might just be whats in store for poor Gordon.

Lewis has run for everything but ratcatcher in this one horse carnival town. The one thing he’s got left going for him is anyone would be better than Gordo the brain dead Weekes.
This dude has been on the slide for years with no spark of recognition as the PD has been reduced to a puddle of one liners and resembles more of a sideshow of vintage grand grotesques suffering from dementia riding it out to the inevitable end. It’s on the radar screen now.
Lewis is the first. Who’s next to enter the mud pit ? Lol

Political gamesmanship and uncertainty shall have the net effect of the real Mr. Finkelstein deciding to remain at the last minute and Mr. Weekes withdrawing his candidacy. This is a possibility.

THAT DIDNT TAKE LONG. LEWIS’ FIRST OFFICIAL ACT WOULD BE TO CLEAN THE PIPES OF ALL ADMINISTRATION AND STAFF IT WITH WORKING SUPERVISORS WHO ACTUALLY HANDLE CASES. THE RACE IS ON. FINKELSTEIN’S BROWN NOSERS ON NOTICE. THE FREE RIDE IS GRINDING DOWN.

Probably since he actively tries cases now. I had a contentious trial against him not too long ago and he was zealous for his client while at the same time cordial to his opponent (me). Good luck Jim.

The race to Tallahassee starts early. And Gordo had himself convinced it was gonna be a breeze. Got news for Gordo: Lewis is only the first of the contenders with far more experience than Gordo and not afraid to call him out as to what he’s been doing for the past twenty years.
Wait until the first of three females jump into the race also with vast trial experience and big fat purses! Lol.
Gordo’s been suckered to fit the plan of The Fink. He’s the only one whose stupid enough to play the patsy for Finkelstein’s next round of sound bites. The next round will sound more desperate than the last. Enter the much feared Lizards. They will all have plenty of ammunition.

Marc, please step in and wipe the floor of these parasites. What Finkelstein has done to the private bar is a disgrace. The quality of representation isn’t the only thing that’s suffered under his misguided admin.

    1. 1

      2

The entire criminal defense bar for starters is behind you. Don’t know this Gordon Weekes but I’ve heard he’s not liked much by his own office so not much support there. He’s just a tow the line smootcher with no leadership qualities and will be easy to beat. Enter the race and you’ve got my support and that of everybody I can talk to.
The ERU division is in bad shape and it would be a good thing to eliminate it all together. Some fat chick runs it for the Fink. They swarm the jails lookin for new victims. We could do much better for these poor saps.
Hope you file. You’d be doing us a real service.

Looks like Gordon’s chances are going to shrink with every new filer. Word in the courthouse this morning is the judges are putting up a candidate too.

2020 is a presidential, the African American community will be out in force. Gordon Weekes will be the next Public Defender for 30 years. Get used to it.

The true leader and brains of the office is Brian Reidy.
Yes – Brian Reidy is the defender of all the peeples.

    1. 1

Just another burnout. Reidy stopped showing up in court for his cases and left it to others to cover for him until it caught up with him. It was no big secret. Sort of like his wife who was dumped from regional counsel. Now she rolls her carcass around over at Legal Aid.
They wouldn’t have kept Reidy. He went begging to be kept on and now he lives at the jail carrying on his blowhard bs. He’s lucky he wasn’t canned like his wife. The last of the worthless dinosaurs. As long as the beer holds out. Glug, glug.

    Holy Hell Batman.
We would score to get someone of Marc Finkelstein’s caliber as PD. Even Howard would be honored to have him take his reins.

Marc would also be kick a ss for City of Fort Lauderdale Mayor. Seriously he is a shop with his name. Bonus he is a good guy, all heart, brains, and common sense.

      1. 1

        2

Wow Marc is very handsome. The vast majority of male attorneys in Broward are rather unattractive. He has a face and smile of someone I would trust. Thanks for posting this pic so we can see how cute he is. Ladies of Broward we finally have some eye candy in the house.

Marc Finkelstein could easily win and should file. Having done something besides hide behind his door in the Pd’s office like Gordo, he’d wipe the slate clean of all the worthless supervisors with salaries that are completely out of whack considering the lack of caseloads they carry and split up the top heavy administrative slack among the ranks of attorneys who actually work for chicken feed.
            The sooner, the better Marc.
You can walk right into it and straighten out the big mess Howie, Keuthan and the rest of the slackers have made of what was once a great office to work in.

Gordon, please take your nasty, arrogant, smug attitude and crawl under a rock and stay there. We don’t want any more of the same elitist bullshit at the PD office. Please, just leave, go, now, get!

Jim Lewis? In an election? When he loses, can we appoint him honorary Sargeant at Arms? I feel bad he keeps wasting so much on filing fees.

This is most likely his brass ring
The old saying if u try and fail, try, try again.
He’s a better lawyer than all of them and wouldn’t dodge taking cases.

    1. 2

Lewis has repeatedly run for office, and although he has come up empty handed, he’s made the connections necessary to win the position of Public Defender.
He also has taken every case thrown at him for many years and is not a administrative fetch it boy.
Lewis might take it regardless of the support of his boss Howard Finkelstein.
I think most voters are getting tired of getting passed the plate and don’t like political handovers in principle.
Howard Finkelstein’s statements, Endorsement and Actions have insured Gordon Weeks gets taken on and may have been his biggest mistake.

All of Lewis’s prior elections don’t matter excepting the time he nearly beat Mr. Schreiber.
His experience in the courtroom with so many big trials means formidibality in the column for experience.
    This is not a triviality.

3 years out but I have a lot of people to meet ? You thought he wasn’t around before; he’ll be nowhere to be found now as he’s politicking all over Broward.
What’s his salary now ? Makes you question how much of it will be done on the public dime.
It’s always the same in Broward. This guy should have to use a time punch card.

I started asking around about Marc Finkelstien yesterday and found out he is quite an established attorney. Many consider him an exceptional civil trail attorney. No one can disagree that the PDO needs to be revamped as a training ground for good trial lawyers. Back in the 1990’s had the balls to run against a sitting Judge, when no one dared to do so, he narrowly lost but he showed he is not afraid to take on a race everyone says is impossible to win.

    Draft Marc Finkelstien for PDO

Looks like some more public dollars are being squandered at YAA.

      https://redbroward.com/2017/06/13/bid/

Marc Finkelstien is very close to the Spechler/DiPietro/Shrago crowd who runs YAA. No doubt if he was elected PD, Marc Finkelstien would be steering PD money towards rehabilitative art exhibits and finger painting for defendants.

      1. 0

        1

You fat piece of shit. Marc Finkelstien is a class guy. YAA is doing incredible things for the kids in this community. When Marc is elected, let us hope that he takes the initiative to fund arts programs to help PD clients.

        1. 3

          0

I’m sure that will be a priority! Lol
One things for sure: he’ll get rid of all the deadwood starting from the top. They’ve made a mess of the PD’s office.
A lot of them are timing out so they’ll miss the show.
They all want out before the hammer hits the road so it’s like a race to the finish.
Can you guess how much these suckers are pulling down with no caseloads ?
It’s a good gig if you can hold onto it.

At least Zack Spechler can have an actual job in law. Based on his Instagram photos and art after dark exhibits at YAA, he could be good for touching the kids via juvi outreach program.

Cannot walk down the hallway without running into a Scotturd. Embarrassing in a 75% demo county. Broward Association of Cowardly Defense Lawyers could’t care less. Time to PAC them up in 2018. Form a PAC and educate the masses what the crony JNC has been doing to Broward since Jeb Bushturd.

  16. 4

    3

You people are stupid as usual. You know nothing about how this county works when it comes to politics hence why the courthouse election is always wrong. Gordon Weekes has been running for this spot for years. He is already entrenched with those who matter. Howard had put him on the front line with the media and he is usually the point man for most issues in the press. He will win this election in a landslide. As for Marc Finklestein, I am in this courthouse everyday and I don’t think i have ever seen you in a courtroom. I don’t have any idea who you are. As a result, you are not a state court criminal defense attorney and you have no business running for public defender. All of these posts about how great Marc is are written by Marc. You’ve lost any semblance of legitimacy in my book. Jim won’t win because he is a republican. You can not win this county unless you run democrat. Weekes will not have the support of the defense bar because he will not change policies so that they make more money. He doesn’t need it. The defense bar is a bunch of bottom dwelling losers who do nothing but kiss Mike Satz’ rear end. They mean nothing. Weekes has the support of the party so all other candidates will be working uphill. All Weekes needs is a robocall from Howard to Century Village and Kings Point. BTW in case anyone is wondering the criticism on this blog is crap. I may not agree with him all of the time, but Weekes cares about his clients and he cares about this community. He will do a great job and he should be the next public defender. If you give a damn about the principles that you stand for when you walk in a courtroom you will do what you can to help him because without a strong public defender Mike Satz may make your kid his next tough on crime statistic.

Heard Lewis is running demo. You’ve the one that doesn’t get it. Lewis lost to Schreiber by a very slim margin and has been waiting for this opportunity, so is prepared. Some of his backers will do anything to bridge the divide to make sure no hand-picked successor by Finkelstein will hold any office.
The intense dislike that’s developed over the years to Finkelstein’s grandstanding has been brewing in the back rooms of the Lizards ever since Finkelstein took office as Public Defender.
The knots were tied a while back. It’s going to be no uphill battle.
      The numbers will be close.
That’s not taking into account any others who may jump into this race later further complicating the final tally.
I’d agree with your opinion about a lot of the stuff on this blog is crap ! Lol. But a lot of it is interesting if not hysterical!
A lot of chit has been broken prior to hitting mainstream media by this blog though. Makes for good reading.
How else are you going to get a modicum of truth dealing with these Lizards? I like the term Finkelstein coined. The Lizards are everywhere here. They’re even been known to hide in the walls of the courthouse and call themselves judges.

Jim has been around the block, goes to trial & is a good lawyer. I think he would in short order rid the office of deadwood; & hire, encourage & keep lawyers who aren’t afraid of the courtroom. Marc would also be a good, albeit second, choice.

Candidate Files Suit In Defender`s Race
March 25, 1992|By LARRY KELLER, Staff Writer

The usually low-key race for Broward County public defender heated up on Tuesday when challenger Jim Lewis filed a lawsuit to force incumbent Alan Schreiber to release information about employee salaries.

Lewis, an assistant statewide prosecutor based in Hollywood, said a review of salaries paid to Schreiber`s employees would prove that the people on Schreiber`s staff who are paid the most are political cronies.

“It appears the people Mr. Schreiber surrounds himself with aren`t trial lawyers, they`re political hacks,“ Lewis said. “They go around the county protecting his political butt.“

B.J. Cummins, Lewis` attorney, said: “Pay is not based on merit or length of service, but who you know in political circles.“

Lewis declined to identify which employees he was referring to.

Retorted Schreiber, “I hope David Duke endorses his candidacy, because he and David Duke wear the same type of robes.“ He was referring to a 1982 Halloween party in Orlando, where Lewis was dressed as a Ku Klux Klan member.

“That costume was in bad taste. It was a mistake,“ Lewis said. “The issue really is his competence and integrity.“

Schreiber, who is seeking his fifth four-year term, makes no secret that many of his staff work for Democratic Party candidates. He said he is proud that his employees are better paid than most of their counterparts around the state.

“The people that are most experienced are making the most money,“ Schreiber said. “Even supervisors are handling some cases.“

Earlier this month, Lewis cited Florida`s Public Records Law and requested a list of Schreiber`s employees, their salaries and any changes in pay since June.

“I believe this information will be helpful to the electorate in determining whether or not you should be re-elected next November,“ Lewis wrote in his request.

Schreiber refused to release the information, saying his employees did not want their salaries “released to a prosecutor and political opponent who may attempt to utilize these records in a scandalous, detrimental or counterproductive manner.“

One of Schreiber`s chief assistants, Steven Michaelson, said Florida Supreme Court rulings in November and February make it unclear whether the Public Defender`s Office is covered by the state`s Public Records Law.

“This thing is politically motivated,“ Schreiber said.

He said the information is available at the state Comptroller`s Office.

Can hardly wait to hear what he’s got to say about Finkelschmut and crew. Publish the salaries of his administrative staff and watch eyes begin to roll.

I don’t know, Al was well liked & ran a good PDs office. And he (occasionally) tried a case. Some political patronage is the nature of the beast. Al was kind of a “gonna do it my way” guy, but much smarter than the buffoon in our White House. Phil Shailer writes a good op-ed occasionally, seems like a straight shooter & has seen & done it all; would be interested in his take on these goings on.

Gordo really thinks he was going to walk into it without a good fight ? The fight hasn’t begun yet. It’s time to think again. There are forces in motion. The pieces are set to move. Birthday girl is ready to rumble. Let’s rock and roll.

Gordon Weekes is a chief assistant Public Defender.
Mariya Weekes (not related to Gordon) is an assistant State Attorney. Admitted to the bar in Sept 2008. She’s been applying for open judge seats since her five year mark. Her husband is a defense attorney.
Got it? Gordon and Mariya are 2 different and unrelated people.

I wouldn’t say being a defense attorney and an assistant state attorney/judicial hopeful are unrelated. Its still law.

IVE HEARD WITHIN THE LAST WEEK SEVERAL OTHERS ARE EYEING THE OFFICE OF PD AS AN EAZY GRAB
JUST HOW MANY OTHERS IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME
THE ELECTION BEING THREE YEARS OUT WILL BE THE DETERMINING FACTOR
BUT ALL SPELL BIG PROBLEMS FOR ANY HANDOVER OF THE PD TO THE SUCCESSOR OF FINKELSTEIN
MANY FEEL FINKELSTEIN WOULD NOT HAVE WON REELECTION
THE PAY RAISE TO 170 GRAND SITTING ON SCOTT’S DESK IF SIGNED WILL MAKE IT EFFECTIVE IN OCTOBER AND WILL UNDOUBTEDLY BRING MORE CONTENDERS INTO WHAT ALREADY PROMISES TO BE A CONTENTIOUS RACE AGAIN SPELLING PROBLEMS FOR CONTENDER GORDON WEEKES
SO THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC DEFENDER REMAINS UP FOR GRABS FOR ANYONE WITH THE DESIRE TO OFFER CHANGE TO WHAT HAS BEEN WIDELY DESCRIBED AS AN OFFICE SUFFERING FROM VERY LOW MORALE AND COMPLAINTS OF POOR MANAGEMENT
ITS GOING TO BE A LONG EXHAUSTING SLOG TO THE FINISH WITH FACTURED NUMBERS DEPENDING ON HOW MANY FILE BEFORE THE END

  22. 4

Can’t figure out who’s the dumbest of the two: Gordon Weekes or Jim Lewis. One has never done anything and the other has screwed up everything he’s ever done !

  23. 2

    1

All anyone has to do is have Johnny Weekes get into the race and Marc Finklestein. ‘Then this case gets interesting. No one would know who to vote for…and Johnny would probably win. That would be a great move for him and Mariya. I think hed probably make a good PD too.

  24. 3

    He’s even dumber than that.

The idea that Weekes wants to be the next pd contributes to the skepticism that is already prevalent and persuasive in the pd’s office. Morale is at an all time low already.

Don’t forget to vote for me in three years.
