If he’s not running then that only means he’s retiring at some point soon. He has to be in drop because he’s not going to miss out on collecting twice his salary for a few years. The pay (with pension) is actually too high. Judges should be paid less. The pay package now (in some cases) attracts the ambitionless looking for a pay raise and a free ride. If the pay was lower it would attract true public servants who’d work harder.
Raising salaries to 250ish would attract brighter people to the bench but would anyone without a direct supervisor work long hours????

I love it that most of these opinions are written by government gophers making even less. A lot of the judges were gov’t attorneys before they were judges, so it’s a big salary increase. And, the others take a pay cut or lateral money move. Whatever happened to liking your job, giving back, etc. Compared to teachers, nurses, and tons of other jobs, they are making a comfortable living.
Agree. If you are a government worker/ it’s an increase. But I think if we really want quality people- we need to make it more. Or we will keep getting stuck with losers like Diaz (who are so bitter with their sad and boring job that they fall asleep). But on second thought just increase the pay for circuit judges- you don’t need to do it for county. There will always be people willing to make crap but have an easy job. County doesn’t require a deep legal mind.
It’s not your business to take shots at their low income, no ambition to improve their lives or that they have a boring life.
