        I don’t like the racist “taco” stuff with Díaz. There is no need to do that. He can be criticized legitimately. If he does complain to the bar about lawyers I hope they are legitimate claims and not unfounded- why would a judge do that? I imagine he must be tired of what he does. His entire legal career has consisted of handling traffic tickets making less than what a first year associate does. It is disheartening. It has to be demoralizing for him. Most county court judges are young and can do something else and use it as a stepping stone or are accomplished lawyers that decided to retire and take it easy in their old age. Not him. He never did much and has just been in county court handling tickets his entire career. Maybe that is why he becomes bitter about others. It is actually sad.             To be a county court judge- never having handled any major case. Never having done any important trial. To make a measly $140k a year and handle traffic tickets for over 25 years has to be demoralizing. I mean I guess his job isn’t stressful- but it also doesn’t pay well and isn’t challenging or rewarding. At least a circuit court judge handles interesting cases and issues. I do feel sorry for him. I’m sure he looks at his life as a sad pathetic waste of a legal career. But you are right- as a Nova grad it’s not like he could really get a high paying job anyways. Was he ever good as a lawyer? Does anyone even remember? Like I said- most of his peers are either young people that can use this as a stepping stone to better things or older lawyers that are looking to settle down after a career handling many major cases. He is neither. The salary is garbage. I guess he has the solace of saying he is a “judge” (he likes to feel important). But people that know- know he is only a traffic ticket judge. It has to bother him that he never even made it to circuit. He isn’t even a real judge or a judge that handles real important matters. Magistrates in Broward handle more important cases than he does. It’s a completely undistinguished career, and it is sad. It is probably why he is so bitter and mean to people. I feel sorry for him. He can’t be happy.

              Diaz has had a chip on his shoulder for years for being almost thrown off the bench for past misdeeds as a judge. Instead, he was just fined and suspended from the bench. Its something you don’t tend to forget. Most people that is.
              You would have thought he’d have learned a lesson by being given a break and being allowed to keep his lousy job, but he’s never been very smart, talented or particularly ambitious.

He will make 140k doing nothing during his retirement too. And if at some point he goes into DROP he will have his salary banked as he keeps working for the same amount.                       Revealing pic ! Diaz has been an adherent to the hide and reveal principle for as long as he’s been on the bench. He’s had to to keep his job. If I’m not mistaken, he’s faced opposition every time his term was up, and somehow has survived.
                      It undoubtedly has to do with the fact that he spends more time politicking than he does on the bench.
                      I know he’s not particularly respected by the other members of the judiciary, but respect is not one of his primary priorities obviously.
                      Gov. Gophers fill the bench here, mostly because it provides them the security and recognition they seek and partially because it provides them an adopted view of themselves they wouldn’t have achieved otherwise in a successful practice.
                      We all perform according to our talents. I think its fair to say that Bob Diaz’ talents have always been somewhat limited.

    Judges need direct supervision, if not from chief judges whose responsibility it is to monitor them, perhaps a civilian panel who has no other interest but to insure the integrity of our judiciary.

    Our own Chief Judge Tuter seems more interested in maintaining his own position and offering lame excuses for errant judges when he’s not honoring himself with having a ceremonial courtroom named after him than he does in doing his job. He has proven this fact repeatedly and thusly has continued to bring ridicule and scorn to Broward’s Judiciary statewide.
    It doesn’t need any more, for its long history of lazy and misbehaving judges speaks for itself. Its a disgrace.

    The sad thing is that nobody seems to care that the potential jurors spent their time waisted because of the idiotic actions of our Clerk of Courts. She should be disciplined or removed from office for this sets a very bad precedent. No wonder few want to serve as jurors when they have to put up with this kind of asinine behavior.

            I agree. I work hard for what I make. Not terrible hours. But I also can afford nice things and have a job that is fulfilling and a career that is exciting. I don’t feel my life is a waste. Don’t you think he gets tired of just sitting around posting a blog about those more successful than he is? It has to be demoralizing. But you are correct. He gets paid more than he is worth by the taxpayers (even though it is not a lot). But this is the best he could do with his talent and his shitty law school degree.

              He’s a different breed of cat. He thinks he won the lottery. Years ago he would brag to people what a great dad he was for taking time off during the work week for his kid. All at taxpayers expense. He barely worked as it was with his so called community functions, misc extra activities and lunches. He’s oblivious. Dense. And lazy. Gelin humorously had a Friday blog edition of “where’s Diaz”.
              You enjoy your work and that’s great. You get satisfaction from it even better.
              But that’s you. Can’t compare yourself to Diaz. You’d have more success comparing Steve Jobs to Fred Flintstone.

      I think everyone should step back and appreciate the fact there are lawyers willing to take these lower level public service jobs that are not only low paid but also maddeningly dull and routine. If the fact some are annoyed by the fact Judges aren’t supervised and allowed to sometimes abuse the system with lackluster hours or allowed to moonlight to support their families in the fashion those related to a lawyer would demand-then those that are annoyed should consider that at least taxpayers aren’t handed a heavier financial burden by having to pay top dollar for many individuals that have gained their positions by politics or patronage instead of taxpayers having to pay market rates for top performing lawyers. It’s also important to note that those annoyed by all the pomp and circumstance and trophies handed around to Judges ( admittedly like discounted Pez candies) should realize this serves an important part of the equation for getting the types of people the system depends on to be low rung Judges because since that type of person often responds to that type of shallow stimulus the government saves a lot of money by not having to pay more in salaries as it should be noted the trophy circuit is most always funded privately by those currying favor or seeking government work for themselves. I understand the dissatisfaction many feel because Judges that are abusive of the system or neurotically arrogant seem to get away with things that would never be tolerated in the private sector but everything seen in the bigger picture in conjunction with the harsh fiscal realities should make the annoyed be more tolerant in offering criticisms.

    You know you look at the situation and the money taxpayers spend on these morons and it’s unbelievable. Unqualified people who you could find better on any street corner. Brenda as clerk is a joke. And then Bob and the uneducated over paid wife backing this dolt is shocking. How can anyone with half a brain and any self respect back her as a constitutional officer. It’s baffling and inexplicable. The whole thing should be investigated: these people don’t deserve to be in these positions.

    It’s time to get rid of County Criminal Court. Most of it can be handled by GM’s, THO’s, and Diversion. The recidivist DUI’s and the few other important matters can be handled by County Judges together with Civil dockets. There are way too many Judges who aren’t busy at all. It’s time to cut the fat.
