What is it w BACDL and always pushing these filmmakers?!

I mean, come on, I get it that you’re a group of lazy do-nothings,, but this obsession w filmmakers ?!

First there was naming an award after famed filmmaker (and part-time lawyer) Gulkin, and now it’s pushing Andres Sanz for judge ,, next BACDL will be naming an award after Mel Brooks

I watched Lies My Father Told Me. It was very good. I was upset that Part III isn’t available because I think that’s the part that had most of the Broward Court scenes with young Harvey Glumpin following his dream of becoming an SPD BACDL lawyer and not a Rabbi like his Abba wanted. Anyway here’s the link but don’t be disappointed about Part III because you’ve been warned.

The film’s main character may have been lied to by his father, but Wikipedia does not lie (see entries for BOTH Harry Gulkin AND Andres Sanz).

I have no clue about Sanz but Harvey Gulkan used to keep his Golden Globe in his office there above Jimmy’s Food Store. I saw it.

The original purpose of the award from BACDL was based on Gulkin’s film, “Lies My Father Told Me”, bc the film addresses the anguish Harry and so many other BACDL lawyers feel after being misled by their parents into a career of SPD handouts.

“Harry,” we all used to tell him at the BACDL annual parties, “you should just keep making films and stop trolling courtrooms for SPD handouts”.

Whatever the case may be, Harry was a good lawyer and a good filmmaker. Multi-talents like him are often dismissed unfortunately, or their contributions diminished by claims of dilletantism. These claims are hurtful and made mostly by jealous persons who can’t excel in a chosen field as well as Harry and others like him did in multiple competitive areas. It’s hard being a gifted orator like he was in a courtroom and a gifted film storyteller like he was awarded for. The thing is both of the things are kind of related but the haters will never understand that. I don’t think Harry cared so much anyway. He just got on with it.

I thought she was only a law clerk. I didn’t know she actually did trials. If that is true, then I stand corrected. I still think she is easier to beat than Marta who has a big law firm backing her. And people also like her better.

Who needs experience when it’s so easy to pull the wool over clueless voters, or even better, to get appointed by a slimy JNC that’s been hopelessly compromised by political patronage and glad handling???
We’ve had so many worthless idiots sitting on the bench in Broward, not to mention crooked, what’s a few more ?

Andres Chaves Sanz has been an attorney for 15 years with no blemishes. He takes care of his elderly parents without need for fanfare or accolades. Apparently a great intellect with razor sharp legal skills. A Family man with grit and determination.

Not sure who you are talking about but Sanz is a write in candidate. That means he can’t afford the filing fee, but can still run, but his name does NOT appear on the ballot.

Andres Sanz will never be more than a mediocre filmmaker.
I just watched one of his films this past hour: it sucked. Badly.

Don’t let Andres Sanz fool voters into thinking his judging will be any better than his filmmaking skills!!

It must be a harsh reality going from wannabe film maker to wanting to be a bottom of the rungs chump change Broward County judge. He must have fallen on tough times and needs the nickels.

The choice is clear. With a “write-in” option on the ballot we can all do the right thing.

I’m going to write in Harold Glupskin. He deserves this.

      HAROLD GLUPSKIN FOR JUDGE

      WRITE IN GLUPSKIN

SAY NO TO THE FEDERALIST MAGA DOMINATION OF BROWARD COURTS

A pipe dream. Most if not all of the Condo voting block that would have any name recognition of when Glopkmin was last on the ballot are long gone. It might be doable. But only if there’s a lot of signs and ads and mailers to get Harvey’s name back into circulation.

Harry had problems staying afloat after the court appointment handouts stopped and after he lost his re-election bid for judge after being appointed to the bench originally. He slurped his way to the bench and then got slurped by voters on his way out.

What a bunch of BACDL babies want with a Glupkin award beats me. None of them knew him and most weren’t even born yet before he had dropped off on his way to the netherworld.
Time to update the award to someone else maybe a little more worthy and relevant unless they are all looking for the return of the gravy days of court appointments.
Got news for you little sniffers. It ain’t happening. Get a real practice.

Considering the way Tooty got there, came in last in an elected judicial post and then slimed his way with the help of Scherer his former boss that tossed him to the JNC to get appointed, not much respect from my view. He did the same with Liz Scherer and you saw what happened to her. Both are as mediocre as they come and their snail trails have followed them wherever they go. Its how the Broward scum machine works. Tuter has done absolutely nothing to improve a severely lagging Judiciary in so many respects but make a continuation of the mockery it has become with his help.

I fee; i must respond to the ignorant haters on this cite. I was not a close friend of Harry but i did know him and i can state without any qualms he was a intelligent, industrious , honest and good person. Where tis ovie crap came from is beyond me. Harry was chief of felony as a ASA and he was appointed to the bench at a time unlike today there were very few appointments. Im not sure why he left the bench but he had a terminal illness and did pass soon after. The gulkin award was established soon after his passing out of great respect for him. It was created by the criminal bar to recognize a worthy member. pLEASE FORGET YOUR HATE AND IGNORANCE AND SHOW RESPECT FOR A GOOD AND DECENT PERSON..

Let me get this straight. The Best Defense Attorney Award is named after the ASAIC of FTU/Judge?

Tylock the Shylock writes: “Im not sure why he (glupkin) left the bench”

Duh, it’s pretty obvious now: the guy was so busy moonlighting as a Filmmaker!

The Shylock writes he doesn’t know where “tis ovie crap” came from, but if he’s referring to Harry’s “movies”, well that is directly from the Wikipedia entry about him!

And hey: don’t insult Harry’s legacy by referring to it as ‘crap’

He lost his re-election bid and died of cancer within a relatively short time thereafter and after he had been practicing criminal defense for a short time. I don’t know about any movie career but had had lunch with he and Susan many times and had shared office space with him and had gotten to him fairly well. Its been quite a few years now.
He never spoke of any experience he had in the film industry.

      Mr. Tylock, Glupkin/Gulkin comments
are not based on “Hate and Ignorance”.
Just like this blog, they have devolved.
      into a pointless, cynical farce.

I’d hardly say a Golden Globe is a”farce.” It may not be an Oscar. It’s still an incredible achievement though.

It’s called BDS. Blog Derangement Syndrome. It starts out innocuously, maybe a click here or there, a secret smile at the foibles of some of our less sophisticated jurists. Then it can ramp up, to incessant distraction from important things like work and family. It becomes nothing short of an addiction. The constant refreshing of the browser, and the constant, obsessive complaining and outrage about Jaab to anyone who’ll listen whether it’s a secretary, a spouse, or even a stranger sitting nearby in a bar. Sooner or later one loses all perspective and everything else suffers because without acknowledging the addiction, and the desperate need for counseling and therapy, there can be no happiness, only doom clicking and that disturbing under the breath muttering we’ve all seen – the telltale sign of BDS.

It’s all of our faults. We can’t stop reading. And commenting. But we must remain vigilant against descending into BDS, and we must feel compassion for those who have broken under its madness.

I will end on a positive note. If anyone would like to join a potentially massively lucrative class action we are working on, make a comment with your contact info. In a nutshell deep pocket types like Coke, Pepsi, and Budweiser will be held accountable for fraudently advertising Ice Cold products in vending machines and elsewhere when obviously the products are anything but, because ice cold would mean frozen, and not drinkable liquids.

I suppose it’s what the consumer could reasonably be expecting. For instance: a super cold drink? That’s reasonable. But what if someone is expecting frozen Cola, like the kind a kid would make with his Grammy with tooth picks stuck in it in those old fashioned ice cube trays? Or how about something in between, like Slurpee? Ice cold could mean many things. It really is confusing.

He wasn’t even a defense attorney except for a few court appointments. It’s as farcical as a Reidy award.

      1. 2

        3

I think the prosecutor’s award should be renamed The Golden Glumpkin and given to a nice person who is a standout prosecutor or Judge like Harvey was because the name Golden Glumpkin would also reflect his work in film.

I think the Reidy Award is a good one for a good public service lawyer like Brian Reidy certainly was.

I agree there should be a real defense award named the Melisa McNeil Award which should be the greatest honor a true fighter against all odds defense attorney can ever get.
